    What to do?

Can't get my head around sorting out this problem... its to do with my coupe, so as you can probably guess its leaking
The screen has been refitted extremely badly at some point in its life, and some of you may remember I tried to reseal the A-pillar trims a couple of years ago to stop it leaking, which worked... well now its dripping from the top corner of the screen right under a nasty bit of rust

This needs the screen out to repair it right, and I really need a new screen fitting, and properly by someone who knows what they're doing.

My dilema is how the funk do i get this rust sorted out?
Can't get it done properly with the screen in, but then how do I get the glass replaced properly if it needs this rust repair work doing while the screens out?

    anyone got any bright ideas?

I have the same rust on my CQ, theres a little bubbling through in the centre of the screen and on one of the A pillar covers. Not good. As you say its 99% due to the screen being replaced at some point by a mong, mine is terrible, has a 1" thick band of cloudy glass up the side of both pillars.

I was reading this the other day which is basically the same sorta deal, but its not pretty reading :hides:
Sorry, need a place to vent,i chose motorgeek as im sure many on here can feel my pain when it comes to hatred towards people who mess with our cars. Bought this car with 178000km,car now has 181000km,yes 3000km travelled over a 5 year period. Salesman says,''yeah, brand new windshield'' when i...

Thats nasty - hope mines not that bad.

Trouble is my screen is in 5hlt state, loads of chips and also some scratches where a previous owner was too pikey to buy new wiper blades, so I don't want to reuse the old screen, nor do i want to pay (and trust) a body shop to replace glass as well as sort out the rust

it depends i had a limited edition light green coupe i had the same problem on mine so i sanded it down and sprayed it with zinc galvanizing then primer and then painted back over the top. about 3 days latter to make sure the paint had gone of good I put some masking type on the window and on the new paint work filled the gap in with flexi silicone pushed the trim back in a long the top and wiped the excess of. And 6 weeks ago it was still fine and was done about 4 years ago done as a quick repair but never got round to sorting it out and mate isn’t to bothers either me personally i would try it their isn’t that much to lose and could save a lot of time and cash but that’s just me. Let us no what you decide to do

The rust is right under the screen sealer though, which is why its leaking.
The rust will just bubble up again very quickly - I want it sorted properly, so it doesn't end up like this:

The most likely cause for the rust will be when the window got replaced. Thay would have scratched the paint down to the metal when triming the glue off then did not touch it up before refitting the glass.

My advice would be to put it to a bodyshop that fits windscreens for Rac, autoglass, ect. Then you know thay would have the experiance to do it right. Then you should have the rust fixed and the window fitted to the highest quality.

Ps dont put the s2 to any tom, dic or harry... Ask around for the best place

Trouble is Adam, its hard to find a shop with someone who can do the job properly, as its supposed to be a major PITA to do a coupe windscreen, hence the number of botched ones around.
              Read these: http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40298 and http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40442

I know what your saying alex, if its coming out in bubbles around the edges then there's definitely worse under the screen. I would try and source yourself a replacement OEM audi screen (pattern ones dont fit too good apparently) and as your current one is crap anyway, then you cant do much harm having a go at removing it yourself. Take it out, assess the damage and clean it up as needed. Then Prep it yourself with the proper goo or whatevers needed then get someone with the gear to do the final fitting.

Hopefully it wont look like the one on MG.

It had crossed my mind to have a go myself, but OEM screens are circa £300 though IIRC, and really hard to get hold of - I'd still have the get the screen-less coupe to a known good glass specialist (I think the closest decent one to me is Autoglass in Coventry) Its such a PITA.

This is a worry that has been niggling me too... I have a small rust bubble up there too - on drivers side where my freaky water leak exists. I'm also sure that the screen was done before my time. Will almost certainly need specialist attention, but who to trust ?

There was a recent thread about a fitter who knows how to sort a coupe. Have a search.

I sometimes wonder why I bother with mine then I get a go at one of my favourite roads, no traffic and a worried looking M3 driver in the passenger seat who can't believe how much grip there is or why it's pulling so hard from 3k... makes it worthwhile till the next issue.
