I had almost exactly the same situation with my old Impreza, Autoglass did the windscreen under the insurance and were quite happy to take it out one day and replace it another - as long as they were replacing a damaged screen.

Hmmm, worth asking - trouble is any of the places i've heard do a good job always want the car in their workshop for at least half a day to do a good job.. then its transport from a bodyshop to the glass specialist with no screen!

Sorry, should have been clearer - autoglass were quite happy to come and do the glass work at the body shop for me, they seemed to think it was relatively normal so it can't be THAT unusual a request.

Sounds like the plan would be to find a trusted body shop that can remove the screen and complete the remedial work, and then also allow the windscreen fitter to come back and fit the new screen...

              Cheers,

              Steve.

Would need a decent local fitter for that option whihc is a gamble but maybe worthwhile looking into

Had a chat with my GFs bro this afternoon and he has access to a car transporter trailer so now wondering if its worth me taking the screen out myself, getting the repair work done by a decent body shop then trailering it to a known good screen fitters workshop (i.e. Autoglass Coventry) to get refitted properly...hmmmm... needs a bit of though. Essentially i want to make sure the screen gets refitted to a high standard by someone who knows what they're doing. Ho hum.... more expense in the pursuit of happiness

had the exact same issue Alex with mine about 18months after i bought it....

at the time used qst to respray the roof and sort the leading edge rust (in same spot) guess what...4yrs later it was back and this year its the worst it's ever looked.

I did what Karak was suggesting without issue at the time....rang them with a cracked screen, said that i was having a roof resprayed and some attention on the bodywork as the screen would need to be replaced and asked them come in once the bodyshop qst used had done what they needed and they refitted everything. no questions and no bother...
