do you know where the after run pump is located, i would guess cylinder 3, dont sure though, James?
One thing i've learned we are way behind the Scandinavians!
The proverbial 'Leg out of bed'...Might take a bit more than a tuck in to sort that though!
What do you think caused it? Oil pump failure?
looking at the shape of the rod, it might have seized on the crank and winged its way through the block.
What make were the rods?
I have seen exactly the same mate, from the exact same cylinder. Can you see your crank?
I'm pretty sure i can see No3 big end through the block.
The engine is standard with standard turbo, all i have is a chip (spink knows the orogin) and the WGFV removed (not very usefull) with the WG spring wound down to 1.2 bar.
The engine sounded absolutely fine and felt very strong up until the accident. I think one of two things happend.
Either the big end bearing picked up and the rod let go.
Or the rod was bent through excessive cylinder pressure and maybe a bit of detonation and thereafter let go.
Any ideas? this was a very high mileage engine but i dont think this had anything to do with it.
Was the rod off to button moon?! Hope that wasn't the golf and a 2nd car you had?
No not the golf i have scat rods in that, this is just my daily driver coupe.
Its a shame really, you dont realise how much character the S2 has until you drive other boring cars. I dont really want to break it but its looking that way unless i find a cheap bottom end.
