I'm wondering if Porsche has a bit more of a proud approach to its heritage than Audi when it comes to old parts and workshop tools?
The reason is I am going to reshim my rear diff bearings to correct the backlash tolerance issues i've got after my V8 Torsen swap - I was looking for some of the special tools to drive in/out the bearing races and came across a 944 workshop manual online which uses mostly VW workshop tools for the transaxle, diff and gearbox assembly etc (016 type gearbox i think?) anyway the diff assembly is identical type and size to the stock open S2 diffs - so much so that they use the same VW p/n bearing drifts to assemble the bearing races into the casing and cover plate - VW3138, VW295 and VW511.
My local dealer has already given me the "computer says no!" when I asked if i can buy the tools - I wondered if the Porsche dealer might have a different attitude? Anyone got any experience of the Porka men or know where i might be able to get these old tools?
