So THATS why theyre called stealers!!!!!

I know we all have issues with dealer prices at times, but on the whole i take it with a little pich of salt because it was me that choose to own a slightly unique car.

But, having got myself an 80 Tdi (yup could be Sooty2 = S2!) and it needing an MOT i thought id chuck it through Audis free mots scheme. This is a free mot for any audi over 3 years old. They also do a protection scheme £50 and if it fails they cover up to £750 of the cost of repairs. But this doesnt cover a car with over 100k on the clock.

So with nowt to loose i put it through. Low and behold it fails, ok nowt that supprising but it failed on 100% failure of brake pads front and rear (strange there pratically new less that 3k on them??) that be £100 front and back and £190 labour. It also had a split CV gaiter- ok it actually did although not massively noticable - thatl be £175 (oh plus the vat!) and the handbrake neding adjusting - well what it would actually need would be all new cables and the calipers stripped and rebuilt £275 +vat my friend!!
And would you like us to carry out the advisaries? that be the fuel lines being a lil corroded at £575 +vat (for the love of god!!)

ill just have my keys thanks

dropped it into a local HONEST garage £127 job done mot new cv gaiter brakes adjusted. 1 advisary - rear brake flexi ferrels a lil corroded.

Seriously - what are dealers thinking? i did say to them when i said i didnt want any work doing "you do realise the cars worth 300 quid?"

    last time me shops there

Thanks for letting us know, dealer mots should be avoided like the plague. Especially with the recession, its only to obvious that they want to take you for what ever they can.

they charge those prices because there are idiots out there who are willing to pay them - those people like the **** licking and leather sofas they get to sit on whilst paying Audi £120/hr for some clueless spotty teenager to change the oil filter....

Always be wary of places where mechanics are called technicians and wear shirt and ties undeneath doctor like white jackets!!!!

Went into Audi a year ago to buy some hydraulic fluid. Whilst waiting for the parts advisor to serve me a guy sat within hearing distance on the comfy brown leather sofas was sipping on a gratuious cup of coffee reading a broadsheet in a cravat and tweed jacket. Having brought in his Audi for its first MOT he was waiting for his diagnosis and as the technician returned clipboard and all he said " well sir i'm afraid it may fail as the tyres are a bit down"

The guy having no clue at all about cars looked distraught and sensing his anguish the technican said " dont worry sir we'll be able to source them for you i just have to make a phone call" At this point once the technician disapeared around the back to make a phone call (and no dount rubbing his hands with glee) i went towards the guy shocked by what i'd over heard and was going to ask him to query what the technical term " a bit down" meant but he looked me up and down with such distate i thought to myself you deserve everything you get.

Needless to say Audi made a nice little earner from that guy but in truth that is probably the majority of their clientele people with too much money to care a cars a car when its broken some guy in a white jacket will fix it. Presentation is key you could be mistaken for thinking Audi was one of those Foxtons estate agencys for all the flash ties and hair gel.

Knowledge is key not ignorance, which in these cases is anything but bliss.
Wheres me pipe and slippers luv???

s2addicted: well funny you should mention that about the tyres cause thay said to me "i have to tell you that your tyres are 4.2 mm all round and obviously the fronts wear out quicker" and your point being my friend? "oh were just advising you" my fat hairy behind! im sure if id asid oh really, how much for new tyres theyd have produced a quote quick smart with no "you dont need tyres" speach.

I took my S2 coupe in for its "free" MOT and it failed on the rear brake disks being excessively worn and the side repeaters not flashing orange. Admittedly the disks were worn out but when i checked the repeater bulbs there was no pealing of the orange covering on the bulbs. They were going to charge me someting like £200 to do the jobs, you can imagine i declined the offer. To really take the p**s my parents took there 80 in for an MOT and it passed first time (needed new wipers, they changed just the rubbers and the bill only came to £10) I did a pre MOT check and found the front brakes well worn but it didn't fail on them

Being a mot tester and fully taking advantage of the free mot at Audi my car failed..
On lower balljoints, brake pipes and headlight aim.. Asking to speak to the mot tester to show me the faults on the ramp i got fobed off. I then simply asked for the VT17 form" Right of refusal". Whats that mate is all i got from the front desk. Asked to see the mot quality control man. He knew what it was and asked why i wanted it, lucky for me a had my mot smart card in my pocked and pulled it out. His face dropped. he went into the workshop re-tested my car and it passed.

Very sorry about that sir.. here is a 20% discount on your next visit. Passed it back to him and said "expect a visit from VOSA".

I was smiling for weeks after that..

                      Ever heard the old saying

"You Never Get Something For Nothing In This Life"

When I had my RS6 and Audi Doncaster did a service they phoned to tell me that the car needed new wipers and they cost £18.00.... Fine I said... What about fitting them and they told me it was a 20 min Job and the current rate was £125.00 an hour plus vat..... and they wanted £41.66 & Vat for fitting.......

                      WTF

I needless to say told 'em that I was not paying them nearly £50.00 for some NUMPTY that they were paying a fiver an hour to fit 'em and that they could leave em in the car & I would fit 'em.....

Really peed me off as I pointed out with what they were ripping me off for the service this should have been done as a curtisy.... Needless to say they fitted 'em free...

                      Fecking should think so.....

Most dealerships don't do the MOT guys for example Highland Audi's are done by Autosave

                        cheers Raj

TBH unfortunately i dont think you get anything for free these days and they are very much relying on the fact that any car over 3 years is going to need something doing that they can charge over the odds for.
I think im going to take my car to Audi for its free MOT anyway, and see what they make of a completely home grown s2 that has very few of its factory components left! Im sure theyll find a thousand and one things wrong with it, but then i have a list of all the things that might need doing before i take it to my freindly reasonably priced MOT garage!
