Really sorry to hear that Paul. I wonder was it just the belt that got changed? It was done before I had the car too. My S2 had a belt change before I got it, it is just the belt too.
Hope you get it sorted.1996 Audi S6 Avant.

Yeah who really knows what they changed and whether it was tensioned properly. The plan was to check it next month when doing the sweaty upper gaskets. Just one of those things - could have been a lot worse.Paul Nugent

Tis AAH that blew up. Pretty sure I saw reference to AHA (same letters jumbled up) for a 30V variant on the Audi A4. Dunno about the ACK engine. Guess one of them is the 2.4liter and the other is 2.8liter - I'll ponder a while... Would be a great upgrade but way more than the car is worth so maybe I'll get brave enough to lift one of the heads and survey the damage before I make any radical purchases.
All of this expense delays plans to refresh the soggy S2 of course. Cars - gotta hate them sometimes.Paul Nugent

I googled on 2.8 30V and ACK came up along with a couple others but no AHA IIRC.
It's not a cheap upgrade but I bet you'll love it.Comment

AHA is the 2.8 30v engine for the north American market. Rest of the world got the ACK. The only differences are that the AHA was equipped with EGR, secondary air injection system and post cat lambda sensors so that it could comply with state laws on anti-pollution measures.
The ACK is a nice motor, I've fitted one to my cabriolet with the PES supercharger

So then - is the AAH wiring loom reusable for an ACK conversion then ?
I'm feeling its not as the ACK would be Bosch ECU and therefore different connector there is nothing else. Grafting loom over from B5 to B4 would be a bit tedious due to widely different fusebox and such, but its hardly rocket science.Paul Nugent

Hitachi and Bosch ECUs are different beasts and it's a case of splicing in the Motronic plugs, tedious but straightforward with some good planning. 80% of the plugs in the engine bay for the 12v engines can be used on the 30v engine. Extra looms will be required for throttle body, extra cam sensor, the pair of camshaft adjustment sensors (variable inlet cam timing) and air temperature sensor also note worthy is that the 30v runs 4 wire oxygen sensors in place of the 3-wire sensors, an extra 0v wire is required. The wiring is relatively straightforward, it's the custom downpipes that need the careful consideration and where to weld the oxygen sensor bosses so the steering arms don't foul the sensors!
PES states that 290hp can be had on the standard GIAC software maps with high octane fuel, that's running 6psi boost. I run a 9psi pulley which came fitted to the supercharger when I bought the kit used from the States. I have to use at least a 98 RON fuel to avoid knock and I also run water injection as a precaution when ambient temps are warmer but it's not really necessary in our climate.
The engine runs much like a V8 conversion, there is no waiting for boost to come in, it's instant from the moment the accelerator pedal is pressed, torque and power are obviously multiplied but the power delivery curve is much the same as a naturally aspirated car.30v 80 Cabriolet - FOR SALE!Comment

ASN engine would be cool too - 3liter 30V lump with 220bhp in factory trim. Just dreaming about that really but it would a nice way to go. Seen a couple ACKs on eBay but big enough money considering.Paul Nugent
