They don't do too well really but I'm sure there are a lot of us on here who have had the same thoughts, I have. There were some ITBs on here a while ago and there's a 10v on youtube running the ubiqutous bike carbs.
The way to go is to get them up in capacity really rather than going for revs, less bhp/litre than a rev monster but working with the engine rather than against it. 2.6 20v NA would be a nice option but the power just isn't going to touch a chipped ABY, even if it would sound and rev soooo much better Depends if you want something different or to just follow the crowd, being different usually costs quite a bit but works well if it's done right, seeing as you're selling an RS4 spec Passat I doubt that either downside worries you...

well passat up for sale due to a few things next year. if it doesnt sell it will be put on my parents drive/garage and left for a while.
going to get myself a very very cheap run about. But some point in the future year or so time would like to start building track day car for this reason
and ideally would like a 944 with a 2.3 5 pot lump in it on throttle bodies. Been done with a normal engine http://www.944-20v.nl/ I am not worried about revs to be honest just seeing if they responded well to the throttle bodies or if left on the standard inlet is ok. I have to achieve 200bhp per ton.
but it is only a dream at present and i like to plan these things in advance.

944 is about 1200kg stripped so 200bhp/ton = 240bhp, depending on the restrictor size, fit a 2.2 turbo with a stock k24 and map it accordingly, should see 300ftlbs+ if the restrictor allows, stock cars produce 240bhp ish but it'll drive like a diesel. LOL. What's wrong with the 2.5 16v motor in the S? Not keen on a 4 pot with balance shafts etc?
Not seen many 20V NAs on here, perhaps someone can identify other sites but with a 2.6 conversion I'm sure you'd see 200+bhp, loads of torque and a nice flat torque curve for mid-range. Be very interesting.

i dont think the original 2.5 lump is that great for track. Everyone always says that the engine lets the car down.
you are right about the power I need to achieve but if you look at that guys 944 he still has the original interior in it. So i am hoping to get some weight back.
lastly the main reason i like it is a more compact lump look how far back it sits in the engine bay. so means you bring all the weight to sit between the wheel rather than over hang.
Well I remember my old 2L 16v lump in my corrado achieve 196bhp so I would have thought the 5 pot lump would do better with more torque. I will have to look at the 2.6 option.
as for turbo I really want reliable can't be bothered having spare turbos sitting there etc and weight of intercooler etc.
thanx for your replies thou

The 20v isn't as tuneable as the KR, I think Gazza was saying in reply to a previous thread of mine on teh NA engines that they have different heads etc.
The turbos are reliable, none of the K03 rubbish. k24 on my car has done 165k and it's still fine (famous last words). You wouldn't need an interwarmer with low boost, take a bit of calculation but could yield intersting results with a higher CR, flowed head and portmatched inlet etc. Could be a very interesting little project and would produce reliable power up to the limits set out in the series rules. With that low boost, you could go 7A block and 3B turbo setup, more capacity and low boost will make for a very tractable engine indeed All good fun thinking outside the box, that's why race series like these are so much fun, you can really get the grey matter looking around the problem
Suprised noone else has posted up yet, I'm sure they will soon tho.

BMs are as simple as Golfs, having owned and worked on both they're from teh same era and it shows. Loads of tuning parts around for the E30, check out Metric Mechanic for 2.1/2.2 M42 parts, E30zone will tell you to go M50 or turbo M20 but the lightweight M42 is a realy nice option for razor sharp handling. Can even SC the M42 for something a little different, I think they use the mini SC on there, works well.

i remember alex from the corrado forum days. alex supplied brembo's for a bit.
think you will find the 5 pot not as good at the na thing as the 9a/6a/abf.
as you know the main advantage of the abf is the injection system. a 9a with electronics can do the 160/170.
from what i can see the ports are bigger on the kr and the cams lift 1 mm or so more. the 7a is like a 9a in that respect. 2 ex cams is a pain in the aris to do as the wheels sit differently to the old golf ones for cam chain
in a 944 id have the turbo motor and be done with it. awesome car the 944 turbo. if fitting a vag lump id go 4 pot. get the weight right back from over the front wheels and dig the jenveys out if its track na. i dont see any gains in the 5 over the 4. the I% is not the best engine in the world afterall.
how about a honda engine? same power, no tuning needed.
have a look at Nogins 20v conversion on aB3 80q on Audifans, its a beautiful car and the engine work is impeccable. http://www.audifans.net/modules.php?...wtopic&t=23186 I have been in for a run in that car, and its rapid. Before the NOS install it would keep pace with a standard S2. Now its running 50 shot NOS and it ignites all the tyres easily in first gear take offs.
034 motorsport make a turbo conversion for the 7A as well. They also have a lot of other modifications off the shelf, injectors, chips, flywheels, MAF conversion kits, etc, before you get to the turbo-ing stage. But i guess that will be defeatist.
I have a link in the office of a german chap who makes a throttle body kit for the NG/KV and the 7A. flowimprover.de, but throttle bodies would be further down the line as there are other cheaper modifications which make good power gains before i would consider that stage. Although i bet it sounds nuts! He offers a supersport kit which comprised of a P&P head, revised air intake and injectors and from the german sites is getting a reglaur 200bhp from each.
I am aiming for about 190-200bhp from my 90 quattro 20v sport, which is fairly easily achievable without huge outlays. Mine currently has the later ECU and tubular maniflold which gives solid pull form 3500 to the redline. There was a chap at ADI this year with a FWD white 90 20v putting out 242bhp. rumoured to have spent £6k on it...
I know of 3 trackday cars with 7A engines, and none are audis, two in single seaters, the other the porsche listed above. I only know one of them to speak two, his single seater has had a 7A for 15 years. not the most powerful but it can put out the power all day long, revs like crazy, durable and then could get bits of it fairly easy.
