How much would it cost to...

    Produce a modern 25v 5 pot head?

This could be done in a few ways:-

    1. use the 4v head as a template and work from there,
    2. copy a vag 5v head and stick another pot on the end,
    3. copy an 'imsa' head.

    Steps to take would be:-

    1. design/develope/model the new head in 3D,
    2. determine if existing components could be used in the above and complete step 1 again,
    3. cost out and source part suppliers for the 'new' parts.

With the above in mind what would the head need to perform the best?

    1. full 'penta roof' design,
    2. increased water volume,
    3. variable valve timing,

All of this is hypothetical of course!
    Carlos.

Why do you think that? Have you seen a imsa head?

A mould for one of these heads would cost the earth, it would be easier hypotheticly to get the orginal tooling. But I feel that you have to steal it !!!

For the cost involved versus power gains it would really not be a viable starter...

Maybe i should say my thoughts also..

            Why?

we all know that L5´s have made over 1000 BHP, so why waste the same money to build an 1000bhp 20V on a 25v head?

yes, if i was bill gates. but now im not..

The IMSA head has 4 valves per cylinder not 5, instead of one oval port each inlet valve has it's own separate port

                .

                Oops...

So what are the 5v heads fitted to...thought it was only the 'imsa' cars?

It was only used in some high speed run they did with the 200 quattro ,i can't remember the details now but was never used in the IMSA cars.

IIRC they 25v heaed never actually produced any significant gains and was never used?

Either way i'm sure its doable with enough investment, but would it be worth it?
I think the fact that the latest VAG 5pot is "only" a 4 valver says it all really.
