The next step - Realistic costs and options for more power

If you wanted to take an S2 (ABY) with the following spec to say 350-400bhp) what would you need?

    Current spec:
    Roose boost hoses/silicon vacuum hoses
Cat back Milltek (has gutted cats)
    Homefry
    Aux rad removed
    RS2 cambelt/waterpump

I understand to get the most out of it, it would need rods, so all bits related to a rebuild too (gaskets/bolts/etc).

I beleive the basics to be:
    Exhaust manifold (Wagner?)
    Reverse inlet, intercooler+pipework
    Injectors
    Turbo (GT3071r?)
    Clutch?

Obviously new management and a remap...

Hmmm, it does all add up once you include all the related bits for rebuilding after the rods are fitted, and whatever other hidden costs there are once you find the bits that need replacing along the way; would it be cheaper to sell the S2 as it is and buy an RS2?!

    Alternatives/options/ideas welcome please

    7a zorst cam
    rs2 turbo
    rs2 manifold
    rs2 intercooler
    green injectors

With standard rods? What sort of torque is it running?
      What exhaust/downpipe etc?

        My route would be:-

        CT350
        RS2/Evo IC
        RS2/Wagner EM
        Injectors
        3" down pipe
        Rods
        Clutch
        ADU or 7A exhaust cam

Should see a much cheaper option than 3071 with full Wagner reverse kit.

You'll need a Sachs or other clutch and injectors to suit, best to speak to whoever is going to map it or choose the turbo on that one.

When I spoke to Repo he seemed confident that a CT350 would see 400bhp with the setup right.

Rods are up to you but no matter which way I look at it, I don't want to take the risk.

I need EM, turbo, clutch, rods, bottom end rebuild and balance and it would cost about £5k, that's with the RS2 IC and 3" DP done so add £1k to that cost, ditch the Y pipe and get a sport cat fitted.

Then you're looking at £1500 for the reverse inlet and £1k for a flowed and rebuilt head if you're feeling flush. £8k ish to do it all properly and get a reliable 400 ponies.

Of course, to get 350 you just bolt on everything RS2 and press play, much cheaper and easier, worth doing the rods for the best results.

Milltek is 2.75" with a split pipe to connect to exisitng system, then has a single sports cat, bit of a strange way of doing it, guess it was so they could sell just the DP. Both me and SOnic bought Millteks and they didn't fit. Milltek were happy to fit the DP and make the necessary mods to it, I was all booked inbut got ill before it was done and ended up going to Prospeed later in the year.

              3" down pipe and exhaust?

I think to get the most you are right Rods are a must power is nothing with out Torque.

I like the sounds of Andy C's turbo choice.

              CT350
              Scat rods (budget)
              Glyco bearings
              3" down pipe and system
              Wagner cast manifold
              Larger IC
              660 injectors (siemons)
              Clutch
              Adjustable cam wheel
              Remap

Is there an alternative to the RS2 turbo to give similar results, or is it just as cheap to find a 2nd hand one and get it recondition? (Unless its 100% garanteed to be good as it is)

                So, RS2 bits needed:

                Injectors
                Inlet manifold
                Exhaust manifold
                Airbox + MAF
IC + x-member (or mod the ABY one)

Can a ABY ecu be upgraded to a homefried RS2 spec, or would you have to source a proper RS2 ECU?

Would my ABY cab back Milltek be ok with a suitable downpipe be ok?

Sonic is the RS2 turbo man. CT350 is the same cost as an RS2 turbo from AET and can be tailored to give the results you want, requires some extra parts though, repo is your man there.

I'd get a 3" DP and have a link pipe made to match up to the Milltek 3" system. Prospeed did me a whole system so cheaply that I sold my Milltek to fatty, returned the Milltek DP and had money to spare (ended up paying for a new after run pump )

anyone who says that reverse inlet manifold is required for this hp is not true . Just read through the projects page and see how many cars have been done without it. The turbos are too small to need a reverse inlet manifold, hence lost money if you ask me. 630cc injectors are overkill as well. For me the GT3071R is a BTDT well documented solution to your aim. The wagner IC will get all the cold air you need and the rs2 airbox should do the job.If you go the garrett route make sure you get the 0.82ar which will allow you better cruising EGTs and easier post 410+hp after the map.

Paul N. (s2central) could do your ABY ecu setup for any RS2 specs... i have a spanish friend here (M.Gordon) who has he´s ABY avant with all RS2 specs working perfect boosting 1´7bar...that is perfectly reliable for stock internals

me for example i am runing with RS2 specs (excep RS2 Cams) with the software from Hamon Motors.de....boosting 2.0bar ...with 0 stock internal problems....since installed my metal head gasket...Hamon Motors.de said me that i must have around 550nm of torque......no problems with stock Rods if always has you ignition like NEW
