Do you wear earplugs for cold starts? Have you done a cambelt on it?

I think the 1.9TDI is a cracking lump, we've got two in the family. 50mpg on a PD130 is easy and I can get over 60 on a trip. That wins it for me.

        Andy,
        sorry for the thread hijack.

        Stu,
It's not that much noiser than the A3 1.9tdi that we have - I have the pleasure of starting both up in the morning and de-frosting. Cambelt was done just before I bought it. I drove an A6 with the 1.9 before I bought the 2.5 quattro and I can run faster with my trousers down....

Please carry on, not often we're discussing diesels on here.

I think the 1.9 TDI 130 quattro is the way to go.

I've had the pleasure of doing a cambelt on an Audi V engine, and I'd rather do an inline any day.

I'm sure this discussion could be useful for Andy. Unless he's not interested in either engine.

I love my Gold TDi 130, regularly gets 50+ mpg and on a 60mph run it can see 70 long-distance

Only problem is, in this cold with 6 mile commutes it only gets ~35mpg and it's often tempting to take teh S2 coz it gets up to temp quicker

I need to do the aircon fan in the spring and there is no way it is going to come out without pulling the front end off ....got to admit that the access is abismal. I am contemplating at the same time junking the engine driven fan to it fit a slimline kenlowe.

No you can get them as normal vehicles too. They also do the cross country which is like the A6 allroad

Thanks for the confirmation Beetie, I did think you could get 'normal' AWD Volvo's but I couldn't find one anywhere, only the R model. So I presumed they was a top spec feature only, atleast in the £8k budget restrictions.

And as 2.5TDi's have been mentioned, I used to own an inline 5 version. It belonged to a VW/Audi specialist in Bolton, and before that it was Preston Audi's pool car, 180k miles on it and not a single problem in my time with it. The fella at the VW/Audi had a V6 2.5TDi, and said it wasn't a patch on his inl5 version, the engine had several inherent problems, and stated the 5pot diesel in his mind was their best ever engine. I loved the car, and compared to my Dad's 2001 A6 was much better built. I'd buy one of them for a grand or two anyday...

Had a thought, don't Mazda do a 4wd Mazda6? Good solid car with usual great reliability, though I've heard the diesel has injector problems...
