    Seeking 4x4 help please???

    Guys

    I am desperately seeking advice on my range rover p38 98 4.6l model heres what i know of so far:

    getting above 2000 rpm engine starts to struggle and when driving along at 50 ish it sounds like a steam train.

    it massively overheated today loosing lots of coolant and i had to fill up from a frozen stream!!!

    my guess is its the head gasket but its not getting to the oil

    does any1 on here know of any good specialists please any help would be most grateful

    Thanks

    Anthony

      Hopefully it's not the old slipped cylinder liner issue (4.6's have a history of it, mainly due to the fuel maps apparently).

      V8 specialists include J.E. Engineering, V8 Developments and RPI Engineering

      Have a look on RangeRovers.net for common issues/symptoms too. Although it's an American site there is lots of useful info on there;

          Done a few water pumps on these when converting them to LPG, also known a fair few to do head gaskets.

              These cars have issues with pourous liners in the block. My dad is a landrover specialist and i have helped him replace a few engines on these. His own 4.0l did it so he replaced it with a 4.6. The replacements he uses are always either new or recon, normally a £3000-£4000 job i think.

                If it has a slipped liner or porous cylinder the aftermarket top hat liner can fix it, albeit means an engine strip down. The old RV8's were known for problems over 4ltr.

                  To be fair there great on LPG when all the igntion system is perfect otherwise like anything they are awful.

                  I've convered atleast 30 on multipoint Prins and BRC systems and the only issues we have had turned out to be ignition related, (coilpacks on later ones, dizzy and coil on earlier models back in the day)

                  The engine seems to work well on LPG but some of the cars were just poorly maintained which ends up showing up when the conversion was carried out.

                  The latest supercharged RR was a complete ball ache to convert but great when done, wouldn't mind one of those myself although they would make any S2 look cheap to run lol
