    Just bought an S2

Hello all i have just bought an audi s2 yesterday to go with my ur quattro . I was just wondering how is the air con suppose to work because at the moment it works when it wants to. You can push the button for the a/c and it doesnt light up? Also were is the sender unit for the oil pressure guage at on the engine because the guage shows 5 bar + even with the engine switched off? Cheers.

Not sure about the aircon. they are complicated, mine used to come on and off at random too so i took it out.
The oil pressure sender is on the right of the block same side as the rad about half way down near the front, its not easy to get at if you still have all the horizontal covers in place though.

Check the gauge for any peeling near the centre, that can make the needle stick too.
Sounds more like its the gauge tbh if its staying at 5bar with the engine off.

if its showing 5+bar constantly its likely the connector has come off the sender on the rad side fo the block, or there is a wiring fault

If it is cold outside (below 5 deg C) it won't even turn on. (The light on the hvac panel will not light)

            What utter and complete truth

If you want to test the aircon briefly then wave a hair dryer over your pollen filter... That will throw the switch to activate the aircon, but bear in mind it is designed not to run in very cold air temps for some boring reason that I cannot remember.

Thanks for the info . The guage goes to 0 when the engine is switched off and when turned on it goes to 5. I removed the wires earlyer today off the sender that you have stated and the guage went to 5bar still so its either the wiring or the guage as you all say. So next question is how do the aux guages come out? Does the full centre console need to be removed to get them out? Also i went for a run in the car today and the air con worked every time i pressed the button so it must have not been working for the boring as you say

                Welcome

To remove the aux gauges you need to do this:

                1. Remove the rear centre console as per the on-line directions at

                2. Remove the front section of console complete with auxiliary gauges as per
