    A3 2.0 FSI on a 53 plate with problems.

Hoping for your wise thoughts for a friends car...

Car has decided to pack up a few times in the last couple of weeks...been driven to work up a windy hill after about 25/30 mins, at a crossroads car just dies when he tries to pull out.

Can be restarted with an ignition off/on but is then sluggish...seems to take a day to clear it self?

Car is being run on 95 ron, should it be 98 for these FSI engines?

Car was taken to a dealer and they declared the ECU (£900) to be at fault...no printout of the diagnosis was handed over!!!

Any Known problems on these cars, anything i can do and any cheap ECU suppliers...just in case.

Oh and are the ECU's 'keyed' to the ignition and dash?

    Cheers guys.
    Carlos.

98 RON ONLY for those engines, very important. They are direct injection and the intake ports and tumble flaps can get all gunked up quite easily and cause the flaps to stick.

The ECU is more than just coded to the dash and key, there's calibration data in there that can't be swapped without opening both the old and the new ECU. And unfortunately for you, a second hand ECU won't be cheap either on one of those.

        .

I've got this car available for the next week, so if there is someone who can 'vagcom' it to pull off all the data this will help.

I'm around the Gloucester/Cheltenham area but can drive it to you, within reasonable distance.

        Anyone?
