    S2 Avant on E-bay

    Does anyone recognise this car?

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...id=p2759.l1259

    Run a mile?
I suppose this depends on what it goes for but aparently the owner is a V.A.G. tech and currently work at a Porsche specialist, this is where the turbo was reconditioned.

If the turbo has been reconned, why does it smoke on start up?
The spec sounds good, and it looks ok, so what signals is it giving you to run a mile?

It is also an N plate, so one of the last ever made

My suspicious mind going at full tilt, but that's nothing new.

Smoke on start up, hmmm at that mileage it could be many things, maybe valve guides?

Does this car appear on your database anywhere? do you have anything about it's history or previous owners?

Plus I'm not sure about the green, I could live with it but a nice red colour would be much nicer

Of course, but if you were going to the trouble of getting the turbo done, would you not of got those other potential smoke causers done aswell?
Especially if you were a mechanic that could do them yourself!?

Exactly! hence the reason for the suspicion.

If the head were to be reconditioned what sort of costs are we talking? assuming all the work is done at the same place, removal fixing, refitting etc?

£4000 reserve on that car, I have spoken to the seller.

nice car but with that many miles and smoke on startup I wouldn't be offering him anywhere near.

My guess is valve stem seals though which can atleast be done in situ

£4000! are you kidding! that is probably over twice what it is worth. He'll never get it, but good luck to him.

                  So Dest, your car..................

                    I know !

Nice car but lets face it I couldn't get 4k for mine (Dests old car) which had most of the spec that car does but S8 rims and Porsche Brakes, oh and it had less miles and was a much nicer colour.

I did tell the seller I thought it was overpriced so he may well see that if the bids don't pour in and lower the reserve if he wants to see it gone but he definitely won't let it go for 2k

So it seems lately that Avant owners are starting to put higher prices on their cars now then?
I see another has appeared on Pistonheads this week at £4250, the £3500 I had mine up for seems like a bargain!

The problem is as we all are well aware ANY faults tend to cost a fortune to sort out which puts people off, at 4k it doesn' t want to be smoking on startup really ! plus its been to the moon and back which means it WILL need full rebushing and a load of other bits no doubt sorting so I don't think its worth that if it does sound well looked after and have a few pricey add ons

What people price them at and what they are worth are 2 different things.

I hear coupes are worth 6k although I don't see any selling at that money !

I've removed my interest fom E-bay and told him why, maybe he'll see sense and drop the reserve but I doubt it.
