my 90quattro 20v will return 30mpg on a run, just might be able to eek mid 30's if you opted for prooper hyper miling but i averaged mid 20's for it covering 8000 miles last year. They are nto the most efficent of cars, but its the nature of the engine, just loves to be revved
My CQ20v does on average 22-24mpg. Thats mostly motorway cruising ~85-90mph, and some B road driving. I dont drive the car everyday for work so any drive for me is a little spirited.
One thing i have noticed is the cruising speed has a big effect on MPG. For some reason i get better MPG doing 80-90mph than i do at 70-80mph. I think the reason is due to the inherent flat spot 7A's have ~3000rpms, the closer to 4000rpms you sit the more efficient it is.
The S2 however is even worse, i was expecting better MPG with the extra torque and lower gearing (~500rpms less in top gear) but my average MPG stays put around 21mpg. I have ordered a new O2 sensor as i suspect its running a little rich.
