    100 2.8V6 Quattro Qs

I have to get an 'emergency' audi and I'm looking at a 2.8 V6 Quattro Audi 100

So, the biggie is how bad are these on fuel. Lookign at the specs it shouldnt be any worse thn the S2 is?

Is there anything special on these past the usual VAG issues to check.Couple of people mentioned the valley gaskets can be a pain for leaks.

well... depends how hard you press your right foot and how close are you from the red line! Remember the C4 V6Q it's a very heavy car, even more if it's the Avant. Maybe economy could be close to the UrS4 20VT but I repeat, it depends how you drive. LPG it (seq.gas injection)!

2.8V6 is a good lazy engine, but they aren't great on fuel.

Like all Audi V6 they can leak oil from the head gasket(s) like a *******.

One weak point is an idler pulley for the timing belt - this gave way on mine and I've since heard I wasnt the first to see it happen on the 2.8 motor. Some previous cheapskate didnt renew the pulley with a timing belt and so mine died when it just collapsed. Damn thing... That was my cheap / emergency Audi too. Great plan gone wrong - engine rebuild costs more than car. Same ****, different day !

Its here and the list of niggles is building already. I said to mysel that this car will be kept running and leagl but nothing else but well, you know....

£30 of fuel from Bath to Portsmouth then a couple of bits of pottering, still some left in her.

        Silly niggles :
front centre courtesy lamp has no switch
none of the lamps comeon with the doors
        Sunroof dead
        CL dead
        handfull ofdead bulbs
standard 'slam it in' job on the stereo so it needs to be taken out and 'audi-ised' so it works properly and the antenna amp works.
        Rearview mirror busted
        os wing mirror busted
clutch pedal stickign on ridiculously huge rubber mats
        thermostat stuck open
        more dead bulbs
        intermittant cruise control switch
        dead bulbs
did I mention dead instrument bulbs?

Whole car only cost £500 with tax and MOT and it does the job, EG converts fuel into movement and noise (not much noise tbh)

Garage apointment for the S2 cancelled as the time constraints have gone so I can work on it at my leisure.
