    ive got both.

the bmw is far better built, drives nicer, drinks less as 99% of times 4x4 is not needed and is being passengered along. i xolud have had an a6 2.5tdi Q. not a patch on 530d.

when it snows. forget the bmw.

the audi wins in getting over xhp down.

      well, i have both also...

And i think that you have an softer ride in the beemer ( When they are OEM of course)

Interior is pretty much the same
      beemer revs more on highway
      both cars drink about 1L / 10km

the beemer is good as an daily driver, also fun in the winter to drift little, and with good tires you have PRETTY good grip on snow.

And of course the Audi´s houldnt you waste on daily driving

The beemer is an E39 523touring...

One thing i've learned we are way behind the Scandinavians!

mine is a e39 530d msport. it wont move on 1/2 of snow. dont think the 255 tyres help. run flats too. i average 32mpg. motorway 45ish.

certainly softer the bmw. mine has the full msport suspension too. not quite koni and poly/solid though.

          there´s your problem

obvisously it isnt to compare with an quattro, but it has pretty good grip for an 2wd i was reffering to

its a tiptronic too. another issue form winter grip.

the traction control just slows the car to a stop too. lol

hoping to have the audi on the road in a week or 2.

Oh dear, what have I started

Re Tracton control, saw a few BMWs in the snow that refused to play anymore, including a Police x5

two very fine cars i feel evilgoat.

think most have seen the pics. usually in the snow of stranded bmw. if i lived in a snowy climate then a land rover would be outside.

they dont play in snow. appears the tc on the bmw maybe the 6 valve esp variant rather than 2 valve due to the smoothness of the go-nowhere. you can be doing 10mph say and it will slow you like lifting off the gas. then the wheels dont even try to move. tcs button off and tyre smoke is the next issue. 255 run flats aint cheap.

audi issues are different. lots of coupe fishtanks about. professional koi transporters some are. i got a luck dry (ish) one. the ish part is the mold on the steering wheel and gearknob i found after a winter of snow.

I think they all have issues.

BMW, tbh are unknown to me. I quite like my mates 5 series company car tbh

                  And the ones I've owned/own:

Audi, well, we know all about them

Suzuki, self destruct at 100K then every 10K thereafter

Land Rover - Self destruct. period

Ford, Chrysler - we really wont go there

DMC - Looks good, totally sucks

GM - Nay bad for the money.

Sometimes its just fun to bait 'the other german car maker'

E30 for daily duties, drifting and the snow, S2 for physics beating real world performance and cross country pace and security the BM can only dream of. Similar quality products just realised using different philosophies! Both have their place in my heart, along with hot hatches

I also drove a E30 and E36 328's... the car is nice, pretty fun to drive when you can enjoy the rwd doing some oversteer, interior quality on the E30 is much higher than the E36, engines and gearboxes are great on both. The Audi... the driving sensation is a lot more safe on the audi, I feel the car a lot more stable and secure even if it is heavier during low and high speed cornering. Unfortunately the NM on a heavy car wasn't enough to get some fun but I prefer the quattro tan any of the rwd or fwd I have driven before. For the gas consumption it depends if you know how to apply your accelerator and then your mileage will be the same as a 2wd, if you don't learn how to do it, the awd can be VERY thisty. Now, I dislike 2wd cars... maybe the fun could be reached easier but so does the car's limit. Nothing like the real torsen quattro... the other awd's are just imitations

quite a few of us then.. i have an E61 530d and a urS4 at the moment. the urS4 replaced my A4 2.5tdi quattro sport and the BMW replaced an A6 1.8T avant. The BMW in the summer is a hoot but has spent 7 weeks this year resting under a mound of snow. realistically even an inch or two screws it up. also big tyres, auto box and mountain of torque dont help... although i almost grudge buying snow tyres when we used the urS4 for two months solid, I tookt he BMW for a laugh thinking it would be beyond useless, thothing like as good as their traction control is MILES better than audis coped surprisingly well. although nothing like as good as torsen
