If I had the fab skills / cash I'd go ally tubular spaceframe with composite copy coupe panels and use MR mounted 20vt with a FWD 01E gearbox
    Panthero Coupé quattro 20vt
    Indigo ABY coupé
    Imola B6 S4 Avant

            LOL @ the Madwolf attack.

Personally I wouldn't be aiming to use any sort of race prepped car on the road, anything with rose joints or stiff suspension is going to need pulling apart every couple of months round here due to the roads.

My other argument would be why bother building a stripped out car for the road ?? All it will end up with is a: being stolen b: no license, theyare not practical at all, I have owned a few caged up stripped out cars now and my 1.8 stock Astra still does things on the road better than they ever would of without needing mending every 5 mins.

If you haven't already get whatever you own on a trackday, then you will appreciate what its like to hammer your car ALL day without the worry of the plod, you will also see how much punishment the car gets but how much enjoyment you get from doing it and why IMO cars built like you mention are good for 2 places only (in some cases 1 ) the track, and the odd show

Well Said James, Thats what i was getting at. The road is not a place for a "race" car. If you want to drive fast save it for the track, its not fair on other road users.

Your right there, its fine to consider your a good driver at speed but others tend not to judge things quite as well which can and has caused issues in the past, don't get me wrong we all love to speed but race specced cars can be very un predictable on the road.

Everytime I do a trackday I still talk about it months later, you have so much fun its unreal and no day out driving on the road can match it, you have more fun in one day on track than I'd say you do in a year on the road.

The ideal solution is a 'Club Sport' effort with a little less weight, a little more power and a road-friendly reworked chassis. You can strip iut but then make it more user friendly inside, if you wish' and still retain some of the everyday useability of the s2.

Yep, hmmmm so much to think about. a friend was suggesting just get lighter radiator and keep them in front ... and also is the aby battery not in the engine bay and rather undre the rear seats? ..... also I remember someone saying its easier to tune an ABY with more power than a 3B.. due to coil packs or something??

A ABY engine will do 450hp apparently with a GT3071, considering how well that turbo works on a 4 pot I'd be inclined to use something like that if you want a responsive engine. 034 do a kit although I know of a few suppliers who can do much better prices on that turbo, 034 also do a chip for the conversion but from what I have read they don't push the boost that hard as its based upon using a stock engine with stock rods which are known to be the weak link.

IF it was mine and I do fancy having this setup myself I'd rebuild a stock engine, just a freshen up, use some steel rods, good bearings, head studs and steel head gasket to drop the c/r a little, use either a RS2 manifold or maybe one of the Wagner ones, same as inlet, use either a AAN one or a Wagner but I don't think thats required for that sort of power level, as for ecu's thats down to how much you want to spend, a proper ecu is a far better option but does cost BUT the gains are massive from a proper map to suit the engine over a off the shelf chip, plus when you go and modify it further you can just alter the map to suit.

As for radiators I don't see it as that much of a issue leaving it where it is, if you want a alloy one making I use someone locally (I'm based in Sti Ives) who can do a pukka job for the right money.

Thx dude!! big help!, btw how much do u think this setup would cost? .... i was thinking about a stroker .. cause then u can get more power .... and i heard you get an earlier spool up with bigger turbos. Also would I need to change my gearbox? would it cope?

was also thinking fibre doors , hood, wings big breaks , suspension etc ... 17" light weight wheels..... car respray in desired colour etc.. also does the aby have hiD lights? they look more advanced than the 3B lights. The aim is to have a usable car. the looks lovely - not boring ..... and also can nail most -- or even all cars on the road. Im choosing this car from past experiences. I have looked at skylines, supras, bmw m3 .. and they are getting cheaper also.

I love 4WD, and heard that cars such as evos are high maintenance and even more expensive etc...

As far as stroker kits go I'd use the search button as I know nothing about it, as for the other bits a 6 speed box is the way to go for bullet proof transmission.

I would advise that you write yourself a list of what you think you will need, then double it as thats near what the whole package will end up costing, I priced up my own build before I started it, I've now spent double what I expected and its no where near done.

Projects are expensive, ask anyone on the forum !

Agree with the above, projects are way too expensive, if your planning all what it sounds like you will need very deep pockets.

Here's a plan, buy a sorted RS2 spec car for £5k, strip out the back seats, spare tyre etc. fit proper seats and a half cage and learn to drive it properly Not much will touch a lightened 380+bhp S2. Total budget £10-12k.

Unfortunately, there are very few people I've seen on here that have actually completed this sort of project, many have tried and then failed to complete much smaller projects even. The cars then get broken for parts, the expensive toys sold off at a fraction of their original cost and another S2 leaves us through no fault of its own with the owner skint.

Keep it simple, use tried and tested technology and you'll have a very effective, reliable car. Leave the groundbreaking work to tuners with big budgets and lots of experience.

For reference, my car has had £10k+ spent just on parts and it's still a stock engine. It's the little things that add up, £100 here, £150 there...

Just my well learned 2p (£20k) talking...
