    Belt change on a 2003 V6 cab.

Been asked if i could help out a disabled friend with the above, its the 3lt engine.

He's been quoted silly money at the dealer...and it's scared him somewhat!

I've changed the belts on quite a few cars now, but not something this modern with all the springs and dodar adjusters on them.

Any special tools needed? Things to look out for?

What else should i do whilst the front of the car is in 1000's of pieces?

    Thanks guys.
    Carlos.

On the look out for less bits for my s2 saloon project. Now supporting myself by shooting for my food. www.airgunforum.co.uk

Yup you need cam and crank holding tools, new valve cover gaskets cam sprocket plugs, I usually replace water pump and all the rollers, blue locktite everything you touch behind t belt covers except for cam bolts, tq wrench is needed. Front clip needs to be unbolted and moved forward to get to the stuff. If you mess that up your friend will need new engine (not cheap) last one I did coast around 6K us.

Fasterthanrs2 is correct i also agree with the waterpump and the blue loctite.
Don't forget to set the exentre roller between bank 2 and the crank in the correct position.
and you need to set the camshaft self-adjusters (don't know the correct term) before tensioning the camschaft sprockets/wheels. you need a special tool for that too.

i've only done 2 of them so far so i'm not a pro in these belts
without a proper manual and the correct tools i don't think you should do it..

While you are changing the timing belt, this would be a good time to look closely at the water pump. There is a vent hole in the bottom of the impeller shaft. If there is any sign of anti-freeze tracks, then replace it. you'll be needing valve cover gaskets and also camshaft and crankshaft tools.
