That must have been very scary

Presumably you needed a fully approved cage to compete?

Jaysus pembo you are both lucky. Your cage did a very nice job I must say... What type - bolted or welded in ?

What went wrong - bad landing from a yump or what ?

New car is a complete 1990 10 valve Coupe quattro. Everything will move across, so I'll be busy!
Cage was a Safety Devices bolt in and sood up very well and is now available to someone that wants a cage for a track car. Will be putting a weld in one in the new car and going very lightweight. Looking for fibreglass doors and bonnet eventually polycarbonate windows etc etc. Last car was fully homolgated but this one will not be as looking at bigger turbo and bigger intercooler replacing the standard units.
                So K24 7000's for sale.
What happened? The back end touched some gravel at very high speed and put us off onto the grass. We then hit the only concrete culvert for miles and this put us end over end. It took three recovery crews 2 hours to put the car onto our trailer.

dont want to sound like an old granny , but tbo you cant be carefull enough when track or rallying etc... you cant beat a really good weld in cage that goes out to the struts and everywhere basically.
there was a guy rallying a fairly well tuned twin cam corolla rwd over here, he was always competitive. unfortunetaly he crashed and rolled the car badly and his basic requirement bolt in cage punched through the floor and the roof paralised him. some people blamed the hans device for restricting the movement of his neck and shoulders, but it in all honesty it was the cage in my opinion

That was not the cage at fault it was the fitting of the cage. My cage is still fine and the floor was still good. Just beyond economical repair.

Toyota twincams are built from tinfoil. Any cage has to be done such that there is suitable reinforcement. A good bolt in job is up for the job as proven by pembo and many before him.

its a good point about the tinfoil. he would have had welded in platforms, but prob pointless on an old car that was never ment for about double its standard bhp output and driven at 100mph down a narrow road with big strong stone walls. not being smart but id still sooner have a well built weld in, espically for a rally car. no offence ment, just my honest opinion

I believe the appropriate expression is that you should also strive to build in the best safety that you can afford.

I bought a carpet from a rolled coupe gt once
it had been used in a bank job (honest, scrap yard guy had bought it via police)
rolled 4 times and he was driving it round the yard! front screen only about 3" lower than standard
