    Very cool technology

I need one of THESE in my garage. I could just have my European friends scan RS2 parts, email the scan to me and I could "print" them in the US.

    Halfsies anybody?

i can provide lots of NLA hairdryer bodies.

this s the technology used in the motor industry to make bumpers.

they are printed out of plastic overnight and then screwed straight to the car and wind tested. the threads and all perfectly created.

we use proengineer as the tool with full advanced extensions. its great.

we could make upto i think 18" wheels out of billet for example

yes. think its twin turret in the car machines. ours is single bed. about 8 hours for a kettle body or handle to create.

id say the manifold is 2x the work for the machine. our current machine was 40k+ a few years ago. we have 3 x proE users and the cnc man who is a skilled model maker. he can make things out of anything. he's trained by guys who never used computers. he knows his materials.

also handy for pressing in bearings and engine mounts.

                      That's pretty cool.

I was reading about this the other day - http://reprap.org/wiki/Main_Page

We rapid prototype most of out calipers at work like this. Customer's love it how one day they provide a space envelope and a concept and we produce a physical part the next day. They are invaluable in helping people to visualise a component and also check that everything will fit. Our printer looks like a big ink jet printer and builds the part up layer by layer.

The stuff Jay leno showed then is pretty cool though, almost within the budget of an enthusiast.

These machines only make plastic parts then? How strong are they?
