Possbly asked before but...... Gear speeds please!

maby some of you S2 lads discussed this before but cant find it so i asking here!

what tacho speeds are you seeing at what RPM in what gear.......

    i.e mt A4 does 106mph @ 7000rpm in 3rd gear

what does the standard S/RS2 do in 1st through to 6th?

    also at 110mph @ 4000rpm in 6th gear in my A4

mine seems realy long geared but it was a TDi so thats why, dont wanna change just yet as the torque is so unbeliveable in 3rd and 4th as the ground it covers so quickly rather than just feel fast, if that sounds right lol!

    cheers lads!

You will have to get your calculator out, but here are some published figures for std cars with 4.11 final drives and normal 205/55X16 tyres. They are rounded figures:

    6 Speed
    1st (ratio) 3.50 (mph/1000) 5.0
    2nd 1.88 9.3
    3rd 1.32 13.3
    4th 1.03 17.0
    5th 0.85 20.5
    6th 0.71 24.7

    5 Speed
    1st 3.50 5.0
    2nd 1.84 9.6
    3rd 1.22 14.4
    4th 0.90 19.5
    5th 0.71 24.7

Well looks like ill be ditching the 18`s and getting some 15" steels with R888s!

heres what my TDI "DQT" gearbox`d AAN powered A4 will do.......... wow lol

        18" wheels:
        1st 3.50 36mph
        2nd 1.89 67mph
        3rd 1.23 103mph
        4th 0.871 145mph
        5th 0.667 190mph
        6th 0.560 226mph
        final drive 4.111
        wheel radius 25" (18" wheels)

        i used this calculator

should be good on the 0-60 sprints then!

What RPM-s is your car doing at 62mph`?
I'm planning to swap my slushbox for I5 TDIq gearbox, but i'm not sure if the 6th is maybe too long for 60mph cruising. My car is stock UrS6, with MTM Stage1 chips.

My friend told me about a gear setup that would give 5th and 6th ratio to 0.73 and 0.60, but it requires geting the gears form an allroad box.

it was a V6 tdi mate, dunno what ratios are with the I5 TDI box sorry.

calculated at 7000rpm, revs to 8000 though

A few real world GPS speeds off my ABY S2 for you.

The longer 3rd sounds like it's more like a 3B, works quite well on the 1/4 mile as you don't have to snatch 4th to get a 100+ final speed but then some shorter ratios would be ultimately faster.

                Nice one Rusty

will try some 15`s for track action and 1/4 mile trips at the pod.
Just been out again in the A4 and the way it covers ground is amazing, doesnt seem "fast" but hopefully will with the bigger injectors

anyone else got any other times with different boxes?!
bee good to see if anyone else like me has used odd gearboxes

At the minute its 100% standard AAN with a remap i think or chips, whatever it had......
Revs to 8000revs and it did in the donor car too.

got a big wastegate spring and running 1.2bar
im waiting on prices from a few people for chips to run 440cc injectors on RS2 turbo/manifold setup as a stopgap till the winter
i have a stageIIc ECU but need a bottom pulley from 034 and that`ll take 2 month, then map it etc, i use the car every day at the minute so losing the pulley is not an option!

then i have a AAT diesel block, GT42R, and adding to it every month untill i got all the bits to build 6-700 reliable TRUE horses, and not drunken pub talk donkeys either lol

                    looking forward to it like.

Right. Stock AAN runs out of puff at 6k5, maybe a little more with a 3B flywheel and some balancing so 8k isn't really much use IME. You don't need bigger injectors on that setup, wait till you get a bigger turbo and then get the right ones for that, much better than spending money on something you don't need! Be careful with an RS2 turbo on a stock bottom end, they can produce an awful lot of torque and bend stuff! Big WG spring might not be the best plan on that setup. 600-700 is quite some target, that'll take a lot of time and money, 400-500 seems to be quite an easy goal nowadays, 500+ is still a big ask! Good luck with it.

Keep my cash for the other build then eh?

i came from many many years of big power cosworths and a simple swop from standard injectors to "greens" saw gains go from 224bhp (STD) (280stage1 chip, exhaust etc)
                        to 330bhp running greens

so you can see what i was trying to do there lol

                        my full speclist for engine,
AAT block, scat rods, accralite pistons ARP Gold bolts lightened and balanced everything
Steel lightweight single mass flywheel, unsure of clutch yet.
Big port head, titanium retainers, cams and springs undecided
                        GT42R/1.03 fab`d manifold
fab`d inlet with 1600cc injectors and outlets for some gas
rad possibly moved to rear and use the big FMIC i have instead of the 2 SMIC`s im running at the minute

oh and the 034 stage IIc ecu i have also

i will be building everything except the inlet manifold and boring the block to 93mm

Cossie tuners do things... how should we put this... a little differently. The advantages of a massive turbo that's underworked and a simple car that does good power. A remapped AAN does not need injectors and will run 280-300 depending on health, intercooling, exhaust and luck

Check out Doug_RS2's thread and TerryBullwon's thread, that's what you're looking at to get anywhere near 600bhp. Serious, serious work, many have tried and unfortunately failed, these are two of the more recent successed, I think Doug used a GT series turbo. There are more but can't think of names off the top of my head.

you mean 83mm bore and that has its own problems... again, covered in various threads.

The stock bore and stroke 2226cc on a GT3076 can hit 500bhp, check out RWD19T or for a stroker, check out Jamo's project, again 3076 but with diesel crank and a rebore (I think).

The best I5 setup for reliability is an RS2 bolt-on effort, should see 380bhp and it saves a lot of head scratching, check out S2_bo's thread for an example of the ultimate RS2 spec S2 or NIP's thread for something with a larger KKK courtesy of hoffer76.

If all that info isn't enough then you're in for a long ride

Be good to see the install, the I5 in a B5 chassis sounds a little difficult, based mainly on the fact that it's so long and the B5 engione bay is designed for Vee engines and so is short...

Yup, that's about as tight as I thought it might be!

The forum deals with a very narrow subject matter really so there's genuine enthusiasm for all aspects of I5 cars including B3s, B4s and conversions. We get all sorts of mad ideas (yours is the first B5 cahssis I've seen) and I it's always good to have new members to share the enthusiasm and who are going to be making something special! Glad you feel welcome There's lots of infomation and knowledge available and it will save you a lot of time and money to ask key questions (as Cossie tuning really is quite different TBH). For what it's worth, I'd aim for about 450-500bhp on a 3076, it's been done before and gives good results (power and torque) at the same time as requiring a lot less custom fabrication and will enable you to get it right! Intercooling is one area I see as being key on your car as a FMIC will be very difficult.

Feel free to give me a shout about catch tanks, it'll have to be custom for your application and will involve a few components but I've got a good idea of what's required and what works now (thanks to discussion with other members and some past projects I've been involved in.
