Do I need qualifications?

I'm thinking of starting my own business in the area of cars and was wondering do i need a mechanical qualification to be inline with all the red tape set by the government? Or can anyone be a mechanic?

I know it helps to have a qualification as you have better knowledge about cars and the customers will have more trust in you. Just wondering if i could get the business going and worry about the qualifications later?

Not a clue but check you can get shop insurance to work on cars with no qualifications would be another thing, I know there is a lot of small print with regard to that even in our bike shop.
