What a shame! Looks a beautiful car with some good ideas badly done.
I ve had to spend £1k on rewiring and ecu replacement cos mine wasn t fitted right and the ecu died, it was powered direct to voltage with no relays at all
Not mentioning names as its long time since it was done, and its running now, although I ve only a standard map as that would have cost me more money(i aint got cos the mrs left me!)

Nope another name is Kevin Taylor from Capri Racing And Performance. Did me for £4.5k and let my freshly painted RWD mk1 golf rot away to the extend that the freshly build and lubed up lump was so rotten inside I can't get the crank out without the use of a sledge hammer. Pauter rods and wiseco pistons were fortunately retrievable. Which was small fry compared to the other £180+k he did people over for including selling the log bog of his race car to one person and then selling the car to someone else. I personally blame myself for relying on phonecall updates as I didn't take the time to travel and go visit to keep an eye on things as he was supposed to be a mate of 10+ yrs doing me a favour!

That inlet manifold is incredible. How could a tuner be capable of producing something like that...I don't no much about them, but I reckon I could have put something together better!

THe tests and reports included in this thread are by independant experts and all have had to be paid for. I included these and the photographs to show my account was not without substance.
However, the main reason for posting was to warn people of how little legal comeback or accurate professional advice there seems to be regarding specialist tuning companies that carry out work to this standard. This point seems to have been completely missed/overlooked.

I wouldnt of said it had been overlooked
Over the years Ive read plenty of threads where someone posts saying XXXX is a crap tuner because..... which is fair enough if they DID (or did not) do as they were meant to, but quite often there is nothing substantial to backup their claims.
People then obviously post saying just that, where/what is your evidence?

Clearly there is not one single comment of that sort on this thread, or the one on Passionford. So from that Id say everyone was fully aware of your evidence to back things up.
I must add, as I read the thread originally I thought to myself how well it had been writen in a clear, to the point sensible manner.
Going on what you have been through, Im sure it would be quite easy to put up a thread and have a huge rant/slagging off fest, which you did not do

gotta say i feel a little sorry for you.

i remember chatting briefly to you regarding the pectel but i didn't have the funds at the time.

it alwasy seems to happen to those who have a dream plan.

my car has only ever been out of my hands once and that was for the exhaust. id rather **** it up myself. i dont care who the mechanic is its never their labour of love.

                best of luck moving on.

                      Hi Steve,
The accident repairs were shocking from the outset. I was also very disappointed as the car did not even match the performance it had before this work was carried out by FMS.

It was after GTI I had the car looked at. THat is when I was advised not to drive the car to prevent further damage and upon further investigation this mess was unearthed.

Trying to move on now, but funding to get her properly sorted having had £7k wiped out (let alone additional costs for accident repairs) does not make this easy. But I will get there!

                      Cheers

just one thing mayeb worth a look chris. the cams.

i found that changing from aby to 7a lagged it up. maybe its the cams that are causing the lag issues.

im sure there are a fair few of us now who can help with the mapping. nuclear physics it isn't.

Might be worth having a bit of time out to think about what you want out of the car, it will allow you to take a breather from all this and when you are ready, you will have a clear idea of where you want to end up. I'm sure that there are a number of businesses on here alone that will be able to more than satisfy your future requirements with the skill and professionalism that one would expect.

Ultimately, the parts that are on the car that are in GWO have a value and can be sold on to fund the next step, even if it is backwards in terms of power, it should be forwards in many other aspects, the main priority being enjoyment IMHO.

By having modest goals and using tried and tested technology you should keep costs down through minimising complexity and maximising compatability with existing Audi tuners who are known to you and the forum and who have a lot of experience of I5 tuning for all budgets and requirements. It means that you stay away from those who are generic tuners and focus on those who have the skills that are required to complete your project to the correct level of finish - very high

For example, VEMS is now well understood an supported on here and motorgeek, as is the fitting of the Garrett GT turbos, CT turbo, Holsets etc. etc. and many other such areas. There are high end, medium end and low end projects on here that you can learn from and use as examples to yourself for what you pay and what you get in return, thus helping you to identify the best route.

I hope that once again you find the enthusiam that you have displayed when I've spoken to you at meeting in the past and that we meet under happier times in the future

no need for vems if already spent on pectel. ive used the basic 8x8 link plus to good effect on an impreza. thats an ecu by the late possum bourne, a rally ecu basically from 1994 run better/smoother/more power/less juice than stock.

ecu's are ecu's. IO thats all and pectel is a good system. its about engine understanding ie how things really work rather than the basics of the internal combustion engine. feed a plant and it will grow so to speak.

its also about expectations. ive said it before and im sure i will again. turbo engines are all about the turbo...and the mapping.

One of the issues that Chris has had is that Pectel and Audi are a rare combination. He's taken his car to a tuner for their knowledge of Pectel and then been let down on the Audi part of the relationship. By going for a more widely used Audi ECU he should have more doors open to get the car sorted. It's a tough problem having already spent out on something that, as you say, is totally fit for purpose, but a small change of direction might mean that Chris finally gets what he's been after for over 4 years! agree with the means to an end Andy but i feel the pectel can do the job. if it were me id feel a little "unfinished" if i ditched it for another one.

im no pectel expert but i think if the stock triggers can be sorted it would be fine other wise its 60-2. its just an ecu at the end of the day.

im not going to slag any tuner here but some tuners are not the best. its easy to hide issues in mapping to an extent. also not always easy to fix some issues.

maybe simplification of the setup may help chris. removing the air injectors and other items that are not necessary. rule them out.

maybe a word with carsten on inlets and exhaust may help too.

if you still got the love that is. best of luck again.
