    Nice one Audi!

So as those of you that were at the camping meet may remember, Ben and I were discussing the rear light cluster on my A6 and the slight water issue. Turns out, if the things are letting in water and don't get replaced, it'll eventually knock out the MMI system.

Fortunately (or so I thought), the A6 was booked into Huddersfield Audi for a service on Monday. With the car being under warranty, I took the opportunity to bring the issue up with the folks doing the service there and left the car with them to sort out as they saw fit.

Of course, when I got back, they told me that they'd "sorted it out" by giving it a wipe out.

48 hours later and I'm left with an MMI unit that isn't communicating with the car whatsoever.

(this was all after quoting me near £500 for brake pads and £200 to change the sat nav maps CD... no thanks :corey

edit 1: and yes, it's full of water again now
edit 2: some research on the "Gateway Not Available" suggests the "J533" which apparently connects the car and the entertainment systems together, may have some involvement?

Go back and complain and say it was working beforehand.

Out of interest whats the MMI, is it audio etc related or like the passats CCM unit which controls windows/c locking etc

Yeah, I'm gonna go back tomorrow

MMI controls the sat nav, radio, CD changer, bluetooth phone controls, etc. although it's also the interface for changing settings for windows, locking, coming home lights, etc.

      (controls: http://0.tqn.com/d/cars/1/0/t/N/jf_a8_g_mmi.jpg)

So far it's at the point where it doesn't seem to be communicating with the car at all - the sat nav still thinks it's stationary, half way to Bradford; it doesn't go to night colours since it can't tell if the headlights are on; bluetooth for the phone fails; car settings are unavailable; it turns off periodically (powersaving because it thinks the car is off)

Not good and since you was specific about it to them they should sort it out for you, just kick up as much fuss as possible.

I've got problems with the CCM on my vw passat, basically before I got it, it has at some point had water in the passenger footwell (common problem) and the CCM unit has got wet so i've not got windows, c/locking and electric mirrors. Luckily i've got aircon on the car so thats a bonus.

Ah... sounds like these things aren't too well protected against the wet

I get the feeling they didn't really take me seriously when I described it to them, in an "aww, the customer thinks he knows how cars work, bless... let's just wipe it out to make him feel better" kind of way.

            Waterleak

            Hi Dan

If you have a newish type A6 , i dont know which model you have, but here is what we found

The water leak, causes water to get into the units on the passenger side,in the boot, and the intern renders them useless....as you found out.

Also if your rear washer jet piping has a well known cracking problem, causing water to run down the left rearc/d pillar dropping water into the units

There is a recall for the water spray pipe and if this is the problem then units should be covered under warrenty....all of them there as problem will/might still serface later....( look for staining on roof from water......................even better if you using washer fluid, leaves more of a stain.

We had this a few in our workshop at Audi..................

There is more info out there...............but hoping this points you in the right direction.

              Yeah, it's a 2007 (C6 pre-facelift).

Hmm, okay. I'll have a look over it again in the morning with this in mind.

              Thanks for the pointers.

Update: It's now booked back in at Audi (Leeds this time) for next Wednesday. Rear compartments seem a little moist - not sure if they qualify as wet or not. Both rear light clusters are dripping inside.

Update: Sharon got back to the car after going to work today - battery completely dead. Got the RAC guy out to get it going. Waited a while, turned off and then checked the load - 5 mins after being turned off, something was still drawing a fair chunk of power.

Drive home and a curry later, we're waiting for Audi Assist to call us back on where they can get a rental place to give us a car tonight. I then have to drop the Mrs. off there, park the A6 up at Leeds Audi and have her come get me in the rental car.

I have a feeling it's not going to be an early night.

Edit: And I've just been informed that the hire car will be... a Corsa!
Edit 2: It's just gone 1am and I've dropped the car off at Audi and collected the hire car. When I got to Audi, the whole area was bollarded off (contrary to what the folks on the phone said) so I've had to leave it in the car park of a neighbouring business with an apologetic note and a promise to be back first thing tomorrow...

At least I no longer have to wait until next Wednesday to get it looked at, I guess...

What a ball ache! I'd drive the fecking car through there show room window. I hope you get it sorted fella. I bet you are really annoyed with the out come so far with Audi, useless agian by the sounds of it. I'm steering away from a newer car and just going to upgrade mine a bit more.
Just some finishing touches to do now
