They need to be self levelling because they are so much brighter than conventional lamps

I have a pet hate of non projector lights running HIDs they just spread light everywhere and blind everyone

I know how the law states that they must be self levelling and have washers but go take a look at a Evo with Hid's you will find it doesn't have washers. How did that get through type approval?

I put S4 lights in my old A4 TDI and never had a problem at MOT time, just depends on the tester at the time.

I still think coppers should do all the chavs running them in non projector type lamps though

Easy enough to convert back to Xenon bulbs if you haven't cut anything... I keep a pair of H1s in the car in case the dibble get excited

Never had a problem with the MOT on my HID's or on the road with Plod. I passed my latest MOT in June this year.

We shall see if this affects anyone else or not. (I can see this being another upgrade that is down graded for the MOT then reinstalled, like my Cat bypass pipes... :mischeif: )

they need to bne self level and washers. so they dont dazzle

              the BMW has them.

the MOT man is correct i feel. they are gettinbg strict. VOSA are sitting on street corners waiting for cars to roll out of MOT bays. hence my new emmissions issues.

Glad to see my paranoia on VOSA is sinking in, been banging on about it for years primarily because a good mate of mine works for VOSA and they got new powers a while back which means they are autonomous from the Police in providing restrictions.

ok....so, key question is what happens if you get caught? To be honest, a car that looks in good order and doesn't display lend itself to catching the attention of the tester or indeed vosa i should imagine will continue to be fine. They will go for the low hanging fruit i am sure, they are targetted, its what happens.

Can't see the UK suddenly going backwards and downgrading these cars to non xenon lights again - would kinda make more sense to accept the fact that they have arrived, in reasonable significant volumes and in proper use provide more illumination, especially in bad weather. Would make more sense to ensure they are aligned according to MOT specs should be fine. I have never had anyone flash me, even with a loaded car for dazzling

                      Repeat.

The first Audi A8 has HID and not projectors, the first Mertxe E-300 has HID and not projectors, the first Honda Accord TypeR (that sold in Spain) has HID and not projectors, the Laguna II has HID and not...

AND! Some old cars (old Audis, for example) not have automatic regulation with HID.
Audi Spain send to ALL Spanish MOTs a letter that put: if a nearest than 1998 Audi cars has HID, they not must be have automatic regulation, only electric manual regulation.

I always pass the MOT because my car have clima, heating leader, sunroof, Quattro and HID, of course.

PS: Some many little cars has HID and not automatic regulation, like the first Clio Sport.

They will fail it on beam pattern as a HID light produces light from a different place in the lamp thus altering the way it reflects off the reflector Head lamps have to be designed to use HID's you can just get away with it when converting projectors over

which is why i guess those on here who have done it with the H1 projectors will not have had a problem

In my expieriance most non elipsoid hid conversions will pass a mot test.If the beam line is clear cut & the kick up falls in the correct place it will pass.Remember we only test to a minimum safety standard. There are lots of poor areas in the test but its done to attain a level playing field across the country.Unfortunatly there are lots of testers who dont agree and take it apon themself to misinterprate to standards layed out in the testers manual........

Well I haven't seen one HID converted chav car with blue lights in std lamps that should have past the MOT, weather they are behind me or coming towards me they always dazzle and just spray light everywhere as in the video

Don't get me wrong I'm not against it, my 159 has a HID kit but again its projector lamps so they aren't a problem.
