    Expensive Engine Build

    NCTS

    http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1813875.htm

    STANDARD TRIM ENGINE-SPECS:
    4163cc V8 32 Valve
    All Aluminium
    2 x DOHC
    Variable Valve Timing
    8250 RPM
    12.5:1 CR
    414 BHP @ 7800 RPM (flywheel)
    430 Nm @ 5500 RPM

Seller has spent a lot of money, would this engine not have delivered that sort of power from new?

I think that is the standard engine spec he's quoted.
If he's deleted the fancy FSI stuff from the engine, then he's probably reduced it's power so not sure of the thinking there. He'd probably have been better off buying an A8 4.2 and using that as his basis for modification. Car/engine £1k +£7k what he's spend, he could have had a finished product.

Audi 80 Sport, 1986, ...my first car...wish I still had it

Bit of a waste in my opinion really. You can buy new crate Chevy Ls6 and LS7 engines for cheaper or comparable to that. (£5k and £7K?)

The 7 Litre LS7, at 505bhp as standard and much more with mods would surely be ideal for an ultima and suit it's character.

Heard a lot about B7 RS4 engines not making quoted power. I've driven one and it handled well and sounded nice, but didnt think it was all that fast, I'm spoilt by turbos I suppose!

Is it just me that thinks these big capacity engines should make more power than they do?
One of many reasons I hate big lazy V8's!

100bhp per litre is the performance benchmark for N/a cars really, not many expect Honda get more out of them (on the road anyway)
