    steering rack gater

have finally got round to replacing the gater but im having trouble getting the end of the rack apart. if i turn the steering to the right i cant get at the steering damper bolts but i can undo the end of the steering rack bolts. if i put the steering straight ahead i can undo the damper bolts then cant get at the rack bolts, please help this is ackward as i can only get one arm in to do this, i had a couple of replies b4 but need more help like should i split the track rod ends first.

been a while since i did this but from cloudy memory, I think i detahced the damper from the tie rod carrier and pushed it back into the body, then undid the two big bolts to the rack ram and then that allowed the inner tie rods and the carrier to be pushed away towards the back of the block, leaving you access to the plastic retainer on the ram which keeps the end of the gaiter in place.

Have fun, is a royally sh*te job. It might help if this is on a 3b to get the IM out the way, that way you can actually see what thehell you are doing. do a search, i had a sticky somewhere for it
