Yeah i figured that lol but did some of the chassis vary with the engine mounting points? Im hoping to use cabriolet 1.8 engine mounting brackets to fit it on its original mounts.

I think in Golfs the 1.8 20v and 1.8 20vt sit at different angles due to the turbo. It might be worth checking with a cab / A4 what angle the engine sits at so that there are few suprises. Other than that, turbo 4 pot sounds like a nice plan, be it 20vt or 16vt. Is it quattro? Wouldn't go too high if it's not unless you can get a nice slippy/ATB diff.

Try and relocate thigns like the battery and washer bottle to the rear of the car, even out the weight a little too.

The ADR cabriolet brackets are supposed to bolt in with no messing aslong as your mounts bolt onto the chassis legs at the minute, angles wise the a4 t and non t sit the same

Cool. That'll be for turbo clearance on the Golf's transverse setup...

It is a non quattro. Im thinking 250hp using more or less stock parts and a remap. A diff might be added at a later date (read as much much much later lol) due to funds.

I have been thinking about shifting some of the weight to the back. Im going to take my time with it and try get it looking as factory and neat & tidy as possible. Want it looking factory fresh

Im hoping to use an s2 cross member and intercooler. And also an ABY airbox, hoping these will more or less bolt straight in.

S2 XM will require modifying to allow the exit on the correct size and you'll need to double check radiator clearances / mounting menthods too. Not sure if the 1.8 uses a front engine mount like the S2 - edit - it does (ADR engine code).

                    K cool, thanks.

There is an awful lot to think about here having not taken on something this big before. I think i have my head screwed on enough to figure it all out tho.

It'll be at least a good few months before anything starts to happen here.

I should really start a project thread for my car on here, just never thought it would be that appropriate lol. Although a couple months ago i did fit a 5 pot tubular manifold (with mods obviously) and make up my own heat shield and throttle body spacer.

Great plan though this is, would it not be more prudent to just spend the money on an S2 and then you'll get more power, more torque and quattro? Worth asking the question as this will take some £ to complete and as you say, it'll require some brain power to get it right too.

You are correct andy, in a sense anyway. I have thought it over and over and over. The quattro bit is the main temptation, but......

If i use the 1.8t it is still fairly economical, im hoping for an everyday 35-40mpg, where as the s2 is realistically 25mpg on a good day. This is about what my car gets now.

I have had my car nearly 2 and half years now and know it like the back of my hand. I have replaced a lot of parts with parts that are going to last i.e. genuine or polly bushes etc.

I am still at uni too, have 3 years left to go (i am 25 in a few weeks tho so insurance wont be so bad) but my funds are limited. I have costed it out and added a bit more i i recon i can afford to do it this year. Its going to be done well but on a buget. If i was going to buy an s2 i would be wanting to spend about £4500 - £5000 to get a good one. Say my car is worth £900-£1000 then i still have to find nearly £4000. Im hoping to bring the swap in at £2000 or under preferably.

It really is 6 and two 3's but i want something different and a bit stealthy.

Should be a good project, lots of info motorgeek and a fair few 1.8t swaps if you have a search.

However 250 bhp and fwd in an audi seems kind of silly to me, I would pick up a coupe quattro with a dud engine (v6cq for sale for £500 earlier this month) and build that.

GTO - thanks for the offer of help on the wiring, might come in handy.

Andy10v - Yeah i know it seems daft but think of a mk2 golf running that kind of power through the front wheels, thats barmy! I have thought about doing the swap with something like that but your gona loose some economy through the transmission, its a lot more to go wrong with suspension, transmission, bushes etc etc.
Also would the 1.8t engine drop onto the existing chassi mounts in a v6 CQ? Im trying to avoid any major chassi work.

I dont do traffic light GP's (that often ) so the extra power setting off aint a big deal, i have traction control anyway, its called my right foot lol. I just want something that i can cruse along in, if someone comes along and starts pushing i can just let the power roll on and give them a shock.

Its impossible to push a car to its full potential on uk roads, not to mention down right dangerous. My car corners fantastically, if i could go round corners any quicker I FEEL it would be dangerous due to the fact you cant see round.

But on the other hand it would be great to have 4 wheel drive, especially when it snows. AHHHHH, where is the smiley with the devil on one side and the angel on the other!!!

Rite, i slept on it last night, im doing this to my car for the following reason -

If i got another car, on my budget it would be a neglected one, i would have to put hundreds in to getting it right before i could start the conversion.

On a slightly different note i had thought of the idea of getting an old 10v coupe quattro, pulling the engine and gearbox, and fitting a 2.5tdi 5pot and 6speed gearbox from an A6 tdi quattro.
