Taking on Seat over Leon tyre trouble

Hi... has anyone heard of this...any ideas of how to get Seat to help!!!

Her indoors bought a Seat Leon TDi Stylance 2006 new shape in Jan 2010.

Brilliant car BUT has developed VERY LOUD rear tyre rumble, which gives you a headache at steady 50mph.

Local Seat dealer very nice, and mechanic knew what problem was even before test driving. Said it's a "known issue" that many makes of tyres wear badly on back of Leons. He described it as “Heal and Toe wear”. It's not that the tyres are wearing out...just the way they are wearing is making them noisey.

The cure - change the tyres (they have about 5,000 -6,000m of wear and lots of tread left) to a brand which they "hope" will reduce the problem. BUT the problem could come back in another 5-7k miles.

    Argghh

This is a well known problem with leons. There was a small production run that came out of the factory with incorrect rear geometry settings. These were in the 2006-2007 chassis range. There was a technical bulletin sent to dealers giving the chassis number range of effected cars. It was mainly on cars with 17 or 18 inch wheels. Bridgestone tyres seem to be the most affected. At the time you could of had this done free of charge under warranty but only if it was showing wear early in the cars life (ie. below 10,000 miles). Your car now being four years old won't be covered but still might not have been corrected. My advice would be to get the geometry checked before you fit new tyres or it may happen again. Another word of caution before you have it done, get the correct settings from you Seat dealer. There are three sets of revised settings, one for "standard" suspension, one for "sport" ( FR models ) and one for "Cupra". This is very important because we have found most "tyre shop" don't have the correct revised settings on their data systems.

We had the car serviced at a Seat dealer - Blade in Bristol, and new tyres which they said would get round the problem.

NOW... about 5,000 miles later the noise if back and my own garage (who I trust with the S2) say it's bad tyre wear for certain.

Does anyone have any paper evidence of Seat admitting this is their fault in terms of the geometry.. and is that essentially the rear wheel tracking being wrong? In which case could it be fixed for £100.. which would be cheaper than replacing the tyres twice a year!!

3 lads at work have the issue with leons, rear geometry is defo root cause, dont let them fob you off with tyres, they will only go again. both rear inside tyres bald across 2", on all three cars. And they defo know its an issue, seen an internal memo about it.

Scream and shout amount will depend on dealership quality.
