    USA Trip

I'm heading over the US for a few weeks in september for a bit of a road trip, and thought i'd try to find a car similar to the s2.

    I've ended up with a 2010 Dodge Charger, AWD, 3.5l v6 high output 24-valve. 250hp, 250lb/ft.

    length: 5082mm
    height: 1478mm
    weight: 1690kg

A little longer than the s2, which is to be expected, and it seems to be lacking in torque a little - but all in all a good substitution i feel.

Well when you come into town you'll have to look me up. I'll take you for a drive in my coupe and you can see some of your old parts hard at work, there is also a 600+hp URQ that you can ride in, and potentially a VR6'd coupe with a 35r turbo in it.

Also what days will you be here, most of us are going out to the Bonneville World of Speed (the same event Top Gear was at 2 years ago), It is going on September 15-18th. You should plan that into your trip.

              Excellent

I'll be with the gf, but i'm sure she won't mind tagging along (like usual) to car stuff

I was hoping to see the salt flats, but wasn't sure what goes on, other than just driving out into the middle of nowhere.

I'm flying into SLC on 3rd, the plan is to head up to idaho and yellowstone, then head back down via the tetons and down to arches national park, monument valley, and glen canyon. Then across to the grand canyon, hoover damn and vegas, and back up to SLC via zion national park, bryce canyon and cedar breaks. I fly out on 24th.

If this is going on 15-18th, i might be best heading south first, then coming back up to the salt flats, and then north to yellowstone.

It would be good to meet up

Plan on it, it will be a good time. If you like, you are more then welcome to driving my coupe on the salt flats and qualifying for the 130 club (basically a 0-130 in a standing mile on the salt), unfortunately you would have to pay for the 5 runs separately and have it "re-registered" but it would probably be a once in a lifetime chance.

I had the same engine in a Dodge Magnum estate.. similar tour but from Vegas.

It went fairly well especially up in the mountains and at high altitude... climbing up to 10,000ft+ in Yosemite was no problem picking off straggler RV's en-route

Don't expect S2 performance though, the thing weighed a ton (think the charger is lighter) and I maxed it out at 110 (limited) on the salt flats. Can't believe you're out there at speed week, I missed it by a week and was gutted

PS - remind me, I have a plastic intake pipe to give to you before I leave. You are delivering it for me in SLC

Yeah, i'm not expecting it to be an s2, but it's not a bad substitute and will be 15 years newer.

Is this the one running around the engine up to the throttle body? Where am i delivering it to?

Are you over on the flats all 3 days, or just the 1? Just trying to schedule it in

Hey that's my plastic pressure pipe!

As mentioned before (to Ross regarding Sonic), I can extend the hospitality Dave offers but no guarantees on getting into a running ersatz S2 with me. It is almost done though. And I have a couple other Audis to chat about...

What happened to the trip Ross?

                              Cheers,
