    4.2 into 87coupe quattro

This is something I have been thinking about for a while now,
so I thought Id ask ye guys as to what might be involved.

Basically, I bought an 87cq 2.2 a few months ago that I intend to strip and convert into a track car with a lwb sportquattro kit.

I will be picking up a 1995 A8 4.2 auto in a couple of weeks time from which I will be taking the engine.

Apart from an engine rebuild, strong clutch and engine mounts what other items would be needed?

I hear that the cq box will bolt straight up which is great, but will it take the abuse of a torquey 300-400bhp v8?
I intend this to be a budget (as possible) track car build.
I dont intend for it to be a showcar, just a rough and ready track beast

    Any tips appriciated

I understand a flexplate adapter or manual flywheel is required. You will need a rad/fans you can fit in the space available. Oil filter relocation is required to clear engine mounts I believe.

Does the cq have power steering? What ecu are you going to use?

Why the engine rebuild? Have you read this?

Anyone out there know where to get clearance and torque specs for rebuilding Audi 3.6 & 4.2L V8s from the early 90s? Audi doesn't have any of this info in their books, and when I asked I got the arrogant answer that the factory doesn't have confidence that this type of work can be performed up...

There are a few v8 swaps on motorgeek in the projects section, I would have a read through as many as possible to glean any info.

yes it would have power steering, which might be tricky to hook up.
When I said engine rebuild, I actually ment just belts pulleys and bearings etc.. .
And I'd be inclined to plumb the rad up in the boot.
I would also have to get a managment ecu also.
      Nothing worth doing is easy
