Newbie looking for advice re v8 v bi turbo

Evening all, Im afraid Im just a wannabe Audi owner looking to get pointers in the right direction to buying the right car for me. Please dont throw empty (or full for that matter!) cans at me, but Im a 100% Saab turbo enthusiast looking to see a different side of life!
Ok, here's where my thinking is at...
I'm looking at the a6 models for no reason other than I like the shape and to be a little diffrent (no offence intended to all of the s4 owners. Just each to their own)
I started looking and chasingb the s6 models and then stumbled across the cheaper 4.2 v8 variant. That search crossed paths with the option of a 2.7 bi turbo. Then the confusion set in! Hence the reason that Im here now!!

The attraction is the leather recaros, bose sounds, love the idea of the paddle shift and it seems some serious grunt available in various forms.
So, where I need a few pointers is the pros and cons of the v8 against the bi turbo. My understanding would be that the v8 needed the wider arch body?
Did both models come with the same amazing Recaro interior?
What sort of mileage are each of the engines capable of seeing? (if wisely chosen with history and tlc)
What are the things to really look over with care when viewing and test driving each model?
Is the £3-3.5k market a dodgy place to be sitting? I can fully appreciate the wonder and attraction of the same plate cars sat at £5k +

Any constructive thoughts or experiences will be very much welcomed and appreciated.

(Now to sneak back to UKsaabs. If anybody asks, I wasnt here!! Mums the word and all that!!)

The V8 has wider front arches and they're aluminium to offset the weight of the big block. The only problem I 've really heard about them is the auto gearbox. I think they were meant to be sealed for life, but started failing at higher mileages so the oil has to be replaced. That and a seal starts leaking at the back of the box, make sure this is rectified to prevent nasty smell and gearbox failing. The same problem is on 4.2 A8s.
