    Newbie needs some advice

Hi all, I've just bought my first Audi, a '94 S2 Avant. I've only had her for a couple of days, so I'm still finding my way around her.
    I've a couple of questions so far;

    1) I find the gearchange extremely stiff, it takes a bit of brute force to change quickly (so I mostly haven't been!). Is this usual?
I would usually change the oil in the 'box for starters, but apparently it's a "no maintenance" unit, hmm.....

    2) She's running on RS2 17" copies, with 245/40 tyres. Can anyone tell me what the correct pressure for these is? I looked at a link here, apparently they need "blah" pressure, which is a new one on me!

    3) I'd like to have her checked over by folk who know what they're doing (preferably for a reasonable price), I live near Northampton. Can anyone recommend someone in my area?

I think that's all for now,

    Cheers, Iain

1). Some complain of it being stiff, it shouldn't be though. GB fluid change is well documented on here.
2.) I have the same size and run 36,37,38 PSI. I think 40 is too much.
3.) MRC in Banbury are your best bet. OR bring it down to ADI at Castle Coombe in October where the forum can pick over it for you...

    Cheers,

    Steve.

If your in Northampton your spoilt, take it to Quattronutter aka Bahnstorm tuning for a check over and you can get cheap 2nd hand parts from will20v aka VRS both are based in Northampton and only 5-10 minutes away from each other.

If you take it to Quattronutter on a weekend you'll bump into myself and Acidburn who both have projects on there.

You can also take it to MRC which is a bit further away in Banbury

          Thanks guys ,
I thought Bahnstorm looked a likely bet, but wanted a recommendation or two first!

Here's a couple of pics, u may've seen the car advertised on Pistonheads last week. She mostly seems sound (still not sure of the 'box though), but one of the alloys is buckled beyond repair, unpleasant juddering at 70mph+

So, I need a new wheel asap! These are RS2 copies apparently. Being an Audi newbie, I've no idea who they're made by, or where I can get a replacement, any ideas folks?

          Cheers, Iain

my advice for your alloys - put some 18 inch s8 alloys on not sure of the set up on the avant but they look great on a coupe or the avant also like the m6 parked beside your s2

I've had the same issue with My S2 since I bought her many years ago(over 15 years)... they are renowned for having a heavy shift.... Has to be with it having 4WD...

Around town I would much sooner drive my MK2 Golf than the S2 any day....

              Open road... Hummmm S2 anyday!!!

                Welcome
Looks very nice on those wheels, sadly they are near impossible to buy now though, so hopefully you could get the bent one fixed.
Aiden (quattronutter/Bahnstorm) will be able to give it a check over, read any fault codes and do an all important boost leak test.
Northampton seems to of had its fair share of S2 Avants recently, its about time we all had a meet up lol

Thanks guys, Bahnstorm it is I reckon!
I asked about having the wheel repaired, it can't be done, due to the way it's buckled apparently. Annoying, as I quite like the style & the tyres have plenty of life left.
I don't fancy running on 18", most of my driving's cross-country on back roads, 18" would be too harsh I think.
Besides, I've recently spent £1000 on Alpinas & tyres for the M6, not crazy about having to splash out on another set so soon!! Hmm, best start looking around though, can't have a dodgy wheel shaking the drivetrain apart!
I'm getting used to the stiff gearchange, it doesn't seem too bad now.
Dest, funny about the Northants S2s, my car lived in Rushden until a couple of years back, moved to Wales & has now come home!

Further to that, Ive just looked on the Avant register I run, and your car is one that I looked at a few years ago (and nearly bought for spares)
It was sat on someones drive for a while in Burton Latimer full of spares.
I knocked on their door and asked if they would sell it.
Ages after I had left my number with his mum I got a reply, but by that time I didnt have the cash spare anymore.
I did ask what he wanted for it, and never got a reply.
This was a pic I took of it sat on their drive

                        Spares eh?!? Ouch!!

Anyway, the old mots from '04 to '05 were done in Kettering. Then there's a (slightly ominous) gap until '08, again in Kettering.

The service history tails off around '03/72,000 miles, then picks up a couple of years back, with cambelt/waterpump etc. being done.

I'm half expecting a fairly nasty problem to be lurking, due to the fairly rapid shift of owners over the last couple of years

Not sure what though; engine seems healthy enough (although some eejit's hacked away half the airbox, in a half-arsed attempt to extract colder air I think!) & there's a bit of an on/off power loss when cold especially, I'm guessing it's an air problem. Drivetrain seems strong, with no undue rumbles or whines. Gearbox....hmm...stiff, but it may just be like that....hopefully.

She'll be going to Bahnstorm next week if they can fit me in, I'll wait to see what the experts have to say...

Well, say spares, it was more wheels than anything!
It wasnt on the Porsche reps then though, from what I remember it was B5 RS4 reps.
Im not sure how long it was sat there, but I did post a message on here about it incase anyone else was interested.
Ill have a hunt through my posts to try to find it, then that will give you a date which might tie in with the gap between MOTS.

                            Here you go:

The dates on there should help, and I also mentioned it hadnt been taxed for a while too, which also fits in with the MOT gap.
Hopefully the mileage is low because it was parked up for a while?

Agree with the others bahnstorm all the way,my urq is up there currently in slow progress (mostly due to me ) and jamo's avants there as well.

I've had 17's/18's/19's on my cars before and don't find them harsh on s2's as its a big car etc, 18's suit the car the best.
