OMG, I may have to sell my S2 for a people carrier

Lets start with the good news, my wife gave birth to our 3rd son 3 weeks ago

Now that bad bit, my driveway looks like this:

    97 A6 tdi (AEL)
    1995 Audi S2 Avant
    1998 Audi 80 Cabrio
1984 Opel Manta (its actually in the garage so doesnt really count)

Now, so far the only car we all fit in is the A6, no mission in the cabrio. Havent tried the S2 yet as my main rad has sprung a leak. I use the A6 as a daily driver and the wife has been using the cabrio. Now, She needs to get a larger car for the kids so we're looking at a Sharan\Alhambra yoke. The choice needs to be made between the cabrio and the S2 as to which one to keep as I will be damned If I'm keeping 5 cars on the road.

Arguement for S2 - we can probably all fit in it

Arguement for Cabrio - well, its a cabrio

Cabrio is slow as hell and you'll look like a middle aged hair dresser ditch it!

Yes, problem is the wife will need to be driving it, that would mean handing the S2 over to her (not that nice a though really) and what exactly do I drive?

I had 6 months using the S2 daily and it near broke the bank , we go away each weekend (about 250 miles return) and in an S2 that hurts. We need something getting about 40mpg that we can all go in with baggage.

The problem is feckin' child seats, you can fit 3 adults in no bother, but with the width of car seats. I haven't even tried them in the S2, they're tight in the A6. Maybe all we need is narrower car seats .

My second son it's due end of december.......
              Cars:
Daily driver 4 seats van version Fiat Stilo
              RS2
              Cabriolet 1.8
so I do understand your problem and I'm starting to look at this things:

No need to say that I always always hated them!

But I'm gonna need it and for sure it will look absolutely and completely disgusting on the RS2 roof!

My suggestion for your situation..... well in all and deep honesty....
              Sell the S2

Buy a nice and neat RS2!!!

              And sell the A6!

2 kids isn't a problem as even very large car seats fit in the back of any car really (even the cabrio which is a 4 seater). 3 becomes more of an issue. We went on a 3 week holiday from N. Irelend to Devon last year with the 2 kids and a load of luggage (came back with even more) in the A6. I think you will be fine in the RS2 with 2 kids without a roofbox.

Can't you let her use the A6 for the kids and use the Cab as your daily?

Don't buy a people carrier, it'll slowly melt your brain.

                      My 2p worth..

As soon as we found out we were having triplets I more or less arranged to sell the S2 (after I'd **** myself), mainly due the running costs, but also due to needing a reliable daily driver.

I was determined though that we weren't getting a facking people carrier. Soooo - we sold her Swift Sport and got a Nissan Pathfinder - a big **** off 7 seat 4x4. It can handle 3 child seats no bother on the second row, and with the 3rd row down, it's a huge boot.

Job done you would think.. naw - now she want's a people carrier as the Pathfinder is just a tad too high to be lifting 3 ever growing kids onto child seats.

My next job is to persuade her to ditch the people carrier idea and trade for a B6 Passat estate TDi. Not as much as a beamer as tootling about in a my-life-is-over-people-fooking-carrier. It's big enough for 3 car seats, and a huge boot with economy.

As for S2 ownership, well maybe in 4 or 5 years time I'll get one again, cos kids get cheaper to 'maintain' over time eh? um....

No - what this man really needs is one of those 'lovely' Chrysler Minivans with the dual sliding doors - its like having a car and a boat all packaged in the same vehicle. I had the misfortune to spend 15 mins in one last week and my gawd they are nasty.

You can do a 7 seat conversion on some Audi 100/A6 estates - also the allroad - then there is a Q5 or Q7 if you win the feckin lottery.

Letting her use the A6 and me using the cab is probably the easiest option. I could use a combination of the S2 and cab as my daily (although I'd notice the extra juice over the A6).

Personally I have always said that I would take a 4x4 7 seater over the people carrier, I think John Bishop said 'buying a people carrier is like telling the word you've given up' However, looking at economy figures, most seem worse than the S2. My brother is selling a 7 seater Terrano, 2.7D. It would kinda make more sense as I have a 23ft yacht and a 17ft cruiser which will need towed about.

I have seen the 7 seat conversions for the A6, I think they are rear facing tho, which the wife isnt all too happy about (although I was nearly sure I have seen a 100 with 2 forward facing ones). She is a health visitor so is very safety concious.

Maybe it's time to hang up the audi keys and buy a Multipla ( I'd have to get privacy glass so nobody could see me tho)

My answer, ditch her and the kids, sell the s2 and buy an rs2 instead ;p

Actually buy a vw t5 Caravelle thing. Sportline = v nice and fast
