It's because the engine has to be remove for most major jobs and the rs4 is a high wear engine, because of this if you can't do it yourself garage labour charges will be high for jobs

As I said in my 1st post if you get a sorted car with your quids in, I personally couldn't afford one or else I would be rollin' in a 2.7tt

I've been asked the question loads, "what's it like compared to the S2??"

Answer is, and I think Darren will agree, they don't.
You just can't compare them at all. Entirely different.
In waht way different though? I like an involving ride with feedback, not too fussed on being cosseted and I don't mind dropping cogs to get to the power band - so maybe better sticking with the S2 and spending 5k on it to get another 100bhp?

The S2 is harsher, more raw if you get what I mean. The biggest noticeable difference is lag. Put your foot down in the RS4 in any gear and it's pulls very strongly and very quickly.
The S2 is, put your foot down, have a cuppa, have a sandwich............ and then boom, she's away (ok, slight exaggeration)
The steering of the RS4 is more direct with more feedback than the S2.
The gearchange I find better in the S2 than the RS4. It's more direct and positive, or more notchy if you like.
The RS4 is smoother over the S2.

Guess I've just compared them Is one better than the other. No.
            I remember reading a german forum with google translate when researching my RS4 purchase. The jist of the german poster was;
The S2 is a tiger shark, the RS4 a Great White.
Both awesome at what they do, just the Great White is the more scary of the two

              S2.

S4 is a very different car. I leant a friend (B5 S4 owner) my S2 for his normal commute and his comments agreed with my analysis of the two cars. S4 is very comfortable, effortless and fast but lacks feel, feedback and a little character when compared to the S2.

I like the same qualities you describe above and could have swapped my S2 for my mate's S4 that's been lavished with all manner of toys (not yet had the ÂŁ6k K04 upgrade ) but having driven it, I discounted it straight away.

I had a Noggy one from very nearly new and it went through 36k of warranty work in one year.... to be fair their were lots of labour cost within that.

My current one has had its fair share of issues just recently which came in at about ÂŁ1500, though prior to this had given me a years worth of trouble free driving..

Like lots of cars when you know your way around them they are not so bad. The engine actually comes out easier than the i5 does.

My RS now runs about 450bhp and in truth is way slower than my ur. .7 of a second to 60 and 2.5 seconds to 100mph. The ur (when measured on G-tech) pulls away at 5 meters a second from the RS at 100mph which is when you would think the RS would be pulling it back, of course it does at higher speeds being more aerodynamic. The RS actually feels a lot laggier than the ur.

As stated they are very different cars and you cant compare them, i personally wouldn't be without either of them.

This is quite an interesting graph, to be fair the RS had an air leak at the time and its quite a bit quicker than this now..... but so is the ur....

As already said, they are very different animals.
Its like comparing ANY 2 different models of car, unless they are very very similar then its impossible to say one is better than the other as both have pros and cons.
Personally, I love the sound, performance, power delivery, feel and everything else about them in equal amounts.

If anyone fancies a ride in my S4 (better performance than a remapped RS4) then they are more than welcome to pop over and see what the dark side is like

Mate you don't have idea how long is the lag on the oldschool Fiat/Lancia engines. I have a Dedra HF with the delta 8V engine running at 1.4bar with the stock Garrett T0367... pedal to the floor and now you can take a cup of tea, eat a piece of cake, pay the bill, come back to the car and then arrives the boost! Same thing on any Delta turbo, Thema, Uno, Punto and coupe!

It's quiet complicated to remove the 2.7tt jamo :S then we gotta think that the car on the video demo was totally NEW! no rust to fight with, no dirty grease, and the guy has ALL the needed tools. I prefer the S2 or even more a UrS C4
