    S2's and the 'other' woman...

Anyone else's other half have a problem understanding the want for an S2?

I'm currently looking and all she can do is show me A4 and A6 1.8Ts and ask "what's wrong with this?"

Problem is, she sees it as "just an old Audi estate"! The noise, the rarity and the fact it's just a cooler car doesn't seem to work in convincing her...

Oh, but she'd spend £3-4k on another Corrado in heartbeat

My missus don't mind my affair with the car, keeps me off bikes....She had a permanent 4 alfa and used to say she didn't like the audi, too big, too cumbersome....then she drove it after the upgrades..guess what, the alfas gone!

Still cant get her to put petrol in it though.
She doesn't chew on me too much cuz she's after a light aircraft... There goes my next upgrade cash!!!

lets face it the corrado is a far better chassis and a far better drivers car. in 4 pot form anyway.

the s2 is a large numb feeling car with no sound in stock form.

maybe your missus is onto something.

I'm not doubting the ability of the Corrado at all.

I absolutly love driving it... you just can't fit a dog cage in it

Here, I decide over the cars, and she decides over the curtains and things.

I drive a nice car, but it can happen that I'm walking in to purple curtains at home.

You should tell your Mrs. that a S2 has tradition and legacy. No more valuedroppings etc.

            Good luck!

Do you choose her car for her?
Thought not! Tell her you will choose your own too!

                get a smaller dog.

i would love to have my 65mm'd G60 for the dry days. dance all over an s2 other than a 300 plus one in a straight line.

the s2 excels in the wet for sure. and its hard work on a C with 500hp

Eh, they're a different kinda car.

To play devil's advocate, she does have a point. There's nothing wrong with a newer A4/A6 1.8T. It's a solid, economical motor. It'll certainly fulfil all practical requirements.

But yes, I do appreciate the other side, hence why I'm after an S2 myself. It is an enthusiasts car though - you're either into them or you're not. If she's not, it can be hard to convince.

As a caveat to my earlier comment, I'd never swap our A6 for an A4. I had one as a hire car while it was in for service, so I got a proper comparison. All I can say is that it was like going from an armchair to a stool.

Thought you might appreciate another woman's perspective.

I'm in a similar situation to you - albeit the other way round! - Ross is absolutely set on getting an RS2 and I must admit to sending him links to A4s and A6s as well.

What "won" me over to the RS2 side is 1.) the insurance on the RS2 is considerably cheaper than an A4 or A6 (for me anyways) 2.) RS2 has considerably more room than an A4 and has better fuel consumption than an A6....

But all that aside, *and at risk of sounding gushy* what really changed my mind is that at the end of the day all I want is a family car which ticks a few boxes (Strong chassis for safety, A/C, comfortable seats and quieter exhaust on long car trips plus enough room for two car seats and a double buggy plus shopping...) I couldn't car less if the car was some japanese rip off if it ticked those boxes. To Ross a "car" is so much more than functionality. Knowing how much it means to him to have this precious RS2 - well I love the guy to pieces and want him to be happy, so who am I to complain or argue?

Besides, a happy husband = a happy wife.

At risk of sounding like an Agony Aunt, I suggest you explain how much it means to you and the female instinct called "compassion" will probably take over.

Oh this dilema! This is the bain of my life. Now im not rich by any means but the wife and i are TWINK's. 2 working incomes no kids, so weve plenty of spendable cash.........but the arguments we have over me spending cash on the S2 are silly.
Car 1: S2, bought outright, 3k. Insurance is pennies and well tax is tax. so monthly it doesnt really cost me nowt.
Car 2: Golf GTi MK3, 370 bought outright, pennies to insure, tax is tax.
Car 3: Z4 30k, 500 quid a month, no the cheapest to insure.

but it still cause grieff when i pipe up im off to buy brakes or an exhaust etc etc. why? because its visible and seen as not needed i reckon. where as the z4 is just money outa the bank month on month. She just doesnt get that i need to know what goes on in my cars, to understand them, have had them apart and back together eetc etc. Shes been brought up on new cars and therefore has no other thoughts.

if you need to explain it, then they just dont get it. guys and gurls.

my s2 makes me happy, thats fine by me

TWINKs / DINKYs - oh those were the days... Hows about she spends her money how she likes on her car, and leaves you alone to spend your cash on your car. Or is that too simple.
