I've often bitched and complained that I often run into fast cars when I'm out in one of my slower cars, but very, very rarely when out in the RS2.
In nearly 4 years of ownership (approx 6000 miles), I've only run into two Porsches, a Cayman and a 993 C2. Both wanted to strut their stuff against the family wagon and both got dealt with swiftly. Until yesterday, I had not run into a single 911 turbo, but that was about to change:
Running calmly on the local 4 lane "freeway" a 996TT passed and got in front. Followed it for a while, and when it got off the freeway to get onto another one, I was hoping for a friendly duel on the upcoming freeway onramp. Not so, he got off the street and into a parking lot before any boost was made. I get off at the next exit and go back in the other direction as a Porsche passes me again. At first I guessed it was the same 996, but lo and behold, this was no less than a 997TT. He obviously knew what the smurf blue Audi was, as he started to make some teaser bursts of acceleration. Got off at the upcoming exit and onto the onramp of the crossing freeway. He goes at it full tilt with the blue wagon right behind. Stayed right at the bumper through 2nd and third. Hit the limiter in third and I decided that is good enough, as that is twice the posted speed limit. The Porsche goes on for a little longer, but brakes and waits up. He gets off a the next exit, rolls the window down and waves. Nice bloke, and an awesome car. 911's absolutely rule, no matter what year or model.
No idea if it was a 997.1 or 997.2, but nice to see that real life performance matches the performance data that I have gathered on my own car and a large number of other sporting vehicles. According to the data, the wagon is slightly faster in-gear than the stock 997TTs, but throw a gearchange into the mix and all bets are off, as the loss of that crucial boost causes a massive timeloss for our smaller displacement cars. The 997.2TTs with PDK have crazy fast gearchanges with no loss of boost. A roll on 3rd gear pull from 55-100mph would be ideal for the blue wagon.
The really strange thing is meeting the only two 911TTs that the wagon has ever encountered within a time span of 2 minutes. Strange things really do happen.
