Could someone please let me know if I am correct in assuming that since my handbrake on the S2 coupe is taking very high, that this indicates a possible seizing of the rear brakes???
No smoke is produced when driving and no no warning lights are showing.
Well in that case I think your down to the adjusting issue. Strangely I don't know if they are hydraulic or not so can't comment on adjusting procedure. However if it's a beetle i could answer that one too!
they should not be hydrolic as it won't pass an mot with them (unless they've changed it) probably just need adjusting as mentioned, just a right pita to get at the adjuster. Check that they move freely etc.
On a coupe (3b) I found the easiest way to adjust the yoke was to drop the heat shield above the exhaust, then a box spanner (to pass over the adjusting rod and get onto the nut) taped into a socket on a long extension allows easy adjustment with a ratchet from in front of the diff.
Could just be cable stretch, have a look at the condition of them.
If they look old I'd just replace them at £15 or whatever each from GSF, as by the time you got as far as adjusting the bloody things properly you may as well have just fitted new ones!
