i think these are over rated, they are not much good when you have to take the wheels off, and i find thats atleast 50% of the time when working on these cars.

I think a good trolley jack and a pair of axle sands are just fine..

But depends on what you want them for of course..

You can get a portable scissor lift, (2nd hand) for not much more than that, as bo said 4 good axle stands and a good trolley jack will do the majority of jobs, I've done a gearbox on an A4 quattro on axle stands! Not easy but did the job

never trust collapsible stands!! working on the formula renault...literally seconds after getting out from under, one broke and the car slammed down. never would use one again. solid, welded up stand yes!

with bo, especially considering the price...i got a 2 ton trolley jack from machine mart for around £75 and it's a decent bit of kit,
axle stands are about £25/30ish for a decent pair, good enough for most jobs..
          It's a love/hate relationship with the S2,i love it,it hates me

worked for a few, started out with Macob which turned into Double-M in both TOCA and BARC, bit of work for Manor, stint with Russell Racing then moved onto Seat Leons and Porsches. Had my 15month internship at Mercedes HPE and all i want now is F1 for the rest of my career! Last year of uni first but i have my own dyno cell to play in

Good back ground, which uni are you at? I studied motor sport at derby uni, wasn't the best in my opinion, I ran a few F360's an F430 GT3 and a 997 porsche for JMH automotive then did some work on formula renualts for M-Tech racing (reon) just in the process of building a car for next years GT Cup / brit car

im at Birmingham Uni doing Mech Eng, but formula student is eating my time up!

i miss doing proper mechanicing for a team but dont really have the time any more. i was skipping quite a bit of uni in my first few years for it. hopefully will end up back at mercedes, that place was amazing! getting to play with ultra expensive engines on the dyno isnt too bad!
