What detergents are you using?

I am going to have a go at cleaning the engine bay out this month,

Who is using what detergents to make it shine bright?

Meguiars super degreaser, Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner.
Rinse engine with open hose (not pressure washer)
Run Engine and allow to dry with bonnet closed.
Open bonnet and spray liberally with AutoGlym Tire Dressing.
Allow to dry, tidy up any excess, stand back and admire...

I switch the engine on, spray the engine bay with Autoglym engine and machine cleaner and then use pressure washer at low setting to rinse it of whilst engine is running. Leave it running for 10min or so with the bonnet open and then go for a drive (with bonnet closed obviously).

As a reference point if you get the dirtiest diesel discoloured cylinderhead with gunked up oil the autoglym engine and machine cleaner will bring it back to shiny aluminium. it also has corrosion inhibitors in it so bare metal doesn't rust away so great for degreasing engine blocks too.

Whatever you do dont use truck wash or Traffic Film Remover or similar as it corrodesd the ******y out of your aluminium parts.

You can use a non caustic truck wash/tfr ,agitate with different reach brushes

Autoglym do a good range of degreasers.

POR15 marine clean is the best I have used. Best applied nice and hot... worked into the grimiest bits with good stiff brushes it works wonders. I find it works faster than Autoglym machine clean but with all these things you have to be careful to rinse off without dousing the electrics.
