    Audi 80 Cabriolet..??

What are your thoughts on these, thinking of maybe getting one in the New Year for the Mrs?

It'll be her first car in the UK so insurance wise it might have to be the 1.8,im obviously more familiar with the 2.8 but insurance for her might be a killa (that said,I've not looked into it yet and prob not gonna be THAT much difference and I know the 2.6 & 2.8 are decent lazy engines and will sound sweeeet with the hood down).

So, what are they like, whats to look out for..roof,leaks,rear window etc? From what i've seen so far, prices really do vary but I really like the look of the Final edition with the facelift bumper, boleros etc..

    Any thoughts guys??

I had the 1.8 and now I got the 2.8. I think the 1.8 is a rubbish engine, noisy, underpowered and had to get the sump off to clean the oil crap out of the engine and do an engine flush and fresh oil and filter within 300 miles to get in proper. That said, mine had done 100k miles and had only been serviced once according to the service history. Ow and I don't like 4 pots in general.

So I wanted to get a 2.3 next, but a 2.8 with a lot of options popped up so went for that one. I don't like the V6 either but it's nice and quiet in the cabbie.

If you go for a 4 pot the 2.0 might be an option?

http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...ghlight=cabbie this is mine, luckily I finally got hold of Bolero's now, the only wheel I really want on a cabriolet.

Rear window on mine is not very bright anymore but replacing it costs only €300,- so that's no too bad. Ideally I would want a red soft top on mine

Might not be as bad as you think. Limited mileage. I'm not even on comission

            My tuppence to this thread,

Buy a late model v6 in this order - silver, blue, or green, change the hubs and fit 17' or 18" Avus rims and you won't be disappointed. Change the front bumper to an S2 style one from the earlier Cabrios in the breakers. See if you can get one with a full black leather interior.

The only thing that always needs attention is the wiring at the hinged point on either side of the boot where it breaks up causing issues with the electric roof. I would not be tempted to be intimidated by an electric roof and attempt to seek out a mannual one.

If the rear plastic window is in bad condition, while it might be a few quid to replace, it will be worth it as the car looks much better and is nice to drive when you look in the mirror.

My 99 silver 2.6 V6 with an electric black roof and full black leather with Avus rims is lovely, if I say so myself.

Manual or auto is a personal choice, never had an auto myself, but really like it in mine, driven in the city.

I'd buy one again, especially when it is for the other half and you can still have an S2, giving you the choice of which one to take out for the journey.

If you do buy one see if you can pick up a hard top for it, spray it the same colour as the car. It looks lovely. There are two types and one is nicer than the other. Get the stand also to store it when off the car. Gav20v's threads have photos of the two types. It should come up with a search.

            HTH.

Post any photos if you buy one.

            Kind regards.

Thanks for your inputs, I didnt even know there was electric AND manual roof options.

It would 100% def be a manual gearbox thats for sure. Does the plastic rear window actually fold on itself or can it be replaced with glass instead? (like what Porsche did with the 986 Boxster).

              Any pics of yours David?

the window folds so can't be replaced with anything else.

And I don't agree on black leather is a must have, it's rather rubbish in the summer actually. I think leather is rubbish in general in the summer but black leather is even worse obviously.

Ideally mine would be ming blue with light coloured cloth interior so you won't stick to the seats on a hot day in shorts.

pm me your email re the photos. Uploading them here is beyond me.

There's no sun in Dublin, so leather is fine for me.
