until recently I was running 380bhp with a stock AAN engine, Siemens green top injectors, 3" DP and exhaust and a Hoffer Hybrid and some of his chips - no intercooler, fuel pump etc - more or less std.

Just curious, why, in this whole debate, the limitations of the stock ABY (or AAN) exhaust manifold have not been mentioned? Yes you can bolt an upsized turbo (up from the stock K24) onto the stock EM but experience on this side of the pond suggests that with the extra power (and heat) you are likely to burn the No. 5 and No. 1 cylinder exhaust valves sooner rather than later. Moving to an RS2 exhaust manifold or, even better, a Wagner RS2 Evo EM gets rid of that issue and removes a likely power limitation point.RS2'd 93 UrS4 5 spd sedan

Forgot to mention I have the RS2 ex manifold to , @ David ,if I had a bigger turbo ie k26/27 I would make nearer 400hp my turbo is only rated at 330/350 hp ,but IMO I needed all the other parts to get the maximum from what I've got

All i know is that my current S2 MTM/Dahlbäck 340bhp kit + some extras) and my old inca orange one (MTM/Dahlbäck 370bhp kit K26/27 @ 1,9 bar) are both running ABY standard injectors and fuelpump only a modified (read squeezed) fuel preassure regulator. none of them have ever had issues. The 370bhp one had dahlbäck "special" injectors witch were infact standard ones with the bosch nr shaved of them!Comment

Andy,
Agreed, was not being critical of the spec you currently have, but just wanting to learn. I'm looking at doing the same as yourself by default, i.e. changing the turbo, injectors and the chip last.
If you were to change the turbo at some stage in the future, you might post up how you find it etc. for the feedback to the rest of us.
Kind regards.

I don't need to worry about the intervals, as per the OP I am only after 320bhp. The absolute maximum would be 350! I have a smallish budget and I don't want to throw big money at big power as there comes a point where I may as well buy an RS2.
It looks like a chip and turbo from Hoffer is the most cost effective route along with better anti-role bars of course. You might leave the S2 fold every so often - but you'll always come back!Comment

No... not really.
Yes. Either a K26/2871, a RS2 or a K26/K27 turbo.@ Prj, If he stuck on a K26/2871 turbo with a well matched chip, (and maybe an RS2 down-pipe), would it not help him exploit the hidden potential of the existing spec AndyT2 has listed above?

a cast RS2 replica costs around 200 EUR on ebay.
Fair enough, but every tune is made for a certain setup. If you change the setup, you need to re-tune. So it doesn't matter who made it - if he made lots of changes to his setup, it won't run as well as it could.
I would hold off on that, until someone shows some dyno results from that setup.
Right now there is just lots of talk and no results posted, so the bhp claim is out of thin air.Comment

Mine was RR @ MRC but no graphs were printed off as it was a rr day with about 40 cars running that day ,I'm sure they will be on there daterbase though .
David i was just giving you my experience with what I've done to give you some insight
,mine cost me about £3500 for that bhp,but you could use a different turbo and get more hp for the money

the original post asked for reliable 320 bhp, I drove around 40,000 miles once I got the hybrid rebuilt with the 360 thrust bearing, std injectors, I/C, EM, fuel pump etc, etc, it was as reliable as it good get over 6 years, (apart from destroying oem boost hoses) it was driven every day and made the odd RR appearance, here's a nice smooth graph from one such outing...

Which turbo was that exactly?
Nice graph, spoolup can be improved 300-400 rpm using RS2 EM though.Comment

Thanks,
"small nothelle hybrid" with 360 thrust bearing , the original with the 270 bearing only lasted 18000 miles, sure spoolup could have been improved but I liked the package and it produced 330hp/500Nm all day without any more tweaking or expenditure, remember this is/was 1995 hardware & softwareComment
-
That's impressive, 330bhp and 500nm on a standard setup is perfect for me! I think I would add an RS2 EM and IC as and when funds allowed, however if it is reliable with no issues then I may just use it as it isYou might leave the S2 fold every so often - but you'll always come back!Comment
