    Temporary car insurance cover?

Can any of you recommend a good insurance company that can offer short term/temporary car insurance cover?

Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of?

    Thanks.

Very tricky, (surprisingly so) as one is trying to be very honest and simply want to be legal. We have this issue at least once a year when " the oldest" comes home. Even as a 29 year old (him) my S2 is off the planet to have him added as a named driver ( despite him having owned Cupra, Elise etc etc on his own full NCD cover ). He ends up hiring and being completely independant.....

Without knowing your circumstances here goes:- Use your existing insurer. Be absolutely honest about who is the primary risk. Add Ladies - even if they may not be needing the car over the period of risk. Be as specific as you can about the nature/duration/mileage/usage etc. A broker may be able to help better than t' internet...All info you can add like:- drivers NCD, retired? locked garage, parked on driveway, daylight hours only - can minimise the risk (in the insurers eyes ). Obviously, the lower ince group for the car the better.

Having had to do this many times, while buying and selling my own transport ( motorbikes and cars ) you will get a lot of cr*p given to you about "primary risk" ( cannot remember the exact legal term) but insurers do not like having a vehicle (in this case) covered by more than one interested party....

Pls let us know how you get on.....Rgds James.

I've done this a few times. Usually your current insurance company can provide temporary cover on a 2nd car for a short period. Either a few days or a week at a time.

Think it was about £15 for 3 days

Admiral, bell and eliphant all give you 90 days temporary cover if you have a policy with them. the amount you pay is calculated based on the annual price for that car so its not expensive

Thanks to all for the replies. I didn't need to do this in the end as the heavy snow fall saw to that.
Still, I'll know what to do next time should the need arise.
