    S2 Prices in Europe

Hi, ive been wondering for a while why it is so that in the UK you can pick up a nice clean S2 reasonably original and clean for around 5k pounds. When the same S2 in Germany is SILLY money?

    Here is an example:

    UK S2
    AUDI S2 S2 3DR (1991/H)
    75,000 miles
    £4,995
    http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2163054.htm

    German S2
    1993, 137.000 km
    17.500 EUR = £14,860.58
    http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/sh...e&pageNumber=2

I just cannot believe that these prices are reasonable. Ok a good condition one will fetch more but that much more it seems crazy!

I dont know, i want an S2 but im not paying these prices, i would rather just get a RHD one from the UK and drive it in the Vaterland!

    I dunno!

    I don't think it's exclusively an s2 thing here's my 2p

In the UK (& Ireland) commercial & fleet vehicles are depreciated to £0 over 5-7 years by accountants. High levels of depreciation also make the authorised dealer good profit margins. There are plenty who will wax lyrical about the value of a full service record etc but in reality once a car is a few years old it achieves and industry "book value" and +/- £1000 thats it's market value.

What makes the s2 relatively cheap in this system is the fact that a b5 S4 is so cheap:
    http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2317401.htm

And the b6 S4 is falling in a similar way:

The problem is that the S4s are not dropping here, they are also expensive and generally anything with an Audi quattro badge is gold out here in zee Vaterland. Ive just seen an Audi 80 quattro compi for 9000 euros. Ok its good nic, but still has over 100k on the clock...just unreasonable and will probably never sell.

Ive seen so many nice S2s on piston heads that were really good prices and good condition, **** it, gonna get a RHD i think. Fook the roads!

I might also add .02$ of opinion here as to the reason for the price differences...

The S2 was, is and will remain a performance car with a lot engine tuning potential if you are looking for a lot of hp for a relatively low total price. Getting a german built, AWD 400 hp coupe or avant for a total budget ( car + upgrades ) less than 10.000 GBP is cheap. They also weren't built in huge numbers and they are all getting rather old and a lot have been either written off by accidents or driven till they collapsed with poor maintenance to blame.

Considering this, in the UK, you have a market that is flooded with cheap RHD high performance Japanese cars, some offering a very similar pedigree ( AWD turbo coupe ) of a lot of hp for really not a lot of money. A stock S-spec Nissan Silvia will give you 250hp for 4-5k GBP. And in all fairness, these "Fast & Furious" models are a bit more trendy/hip to own for a lot of enthusiasts. ( I don't include myself in that group but if you've ever driven a R34 GT-R, you understand why they exert such attraction )

In the other European countries which are LHD, we don't benefit from this market competition.

But the market rules remain the same for all irrespective of which side of the channel you live...

Low offer > High demand = High prices

Strange, really. We're used to getting the raw end of the deal in the UK

Looks like I might have to save up more than I thought for my LHDer... unless I can find a LHD for sale in the UK - would that be cheaper?

My concern about bringing something into Germany would just be that TUV is stricter than our MOT... ie. I could buy something that'd just passed its MOT, but it could fail TUV (particularly if it had a homefry mod).

In the uk the economy boomed through the eighties, had a minor dip in the early 90's and then we were all systems go as the IT industry took grip all the way from mid 90's to (sector dependant) mid 2000's providing many with german rep-mobiles; be it BMW and ever inceasingly Audi. 3 years later or 75K on the book and they were being sold in their droves - mainly through places like blackbush etc - its hardly surprising that B5 & 6's are everywhere for pretty damned good value. Whilst spending a spell at Vodafone in Dusseldorf - they understood that many of our german cousins were booting about in hardcore mercs, 911's and anything interesting they could get their hands on - but they said many ex-fleet cars were taken east to fetch more money (not always legally). I'll shut up now........ ;-)

The UK will follow, once there are not so many cars around,,, this won't take long at the current rate of decline
At the end of the day they are cult cars and will always have a following.
Like the 'Grale for example... I almost bought a decent Evo 1 a few years ago for £7k, I saw the same car sell a few months ago for £11k

                      looks like a bargain that B6 S4

I just can't believe how cheap the B6 S4 is! That's a lot of car for the money.

I guess prices may also reflect the respective strengths of our economies. German growth has been very strong this year and the UK economy is going to have a hard time next year.

I can't bring car in Croatia which is not euro 3 or older from 2002. year. in Croatia we have 3 audi s2, actually 2 because one was full stock and was sold back to Germany , before few month. and other 2 are not for sale...

If I want have audi s2 , I can buy someone in Germany and on boarder sad that car will go in pieces, pay the taxes for this car. in Croatian law said that s2 in croatia cost around 5000 euro. than I will have to pay 30% of that price, only if I want to bring that car at my home
than I have to find some coupe quattro which have Croatian paper , and everithing from s2 put on coupe quattro. than I will have s2 , but in paper still will be coupe 2.0 quattro , than I have to pay atest or TUV , because I change the engine , that will cost me 300euro, and I still don't have s2. well I have s2, but when it will be 30 year old . I could not came to oldtimer club, because my car is not s2. it is coupe quattro 2.0...

I can bring car which is old more than 30 years. so next year I could bring coupe quattro from 1981. and how much is the price ? now is 12000 euro for ugly and dirty and rusty piece..and If I put 20vt in this car - same procedure like s2

I can bring audi sport quattro WITH NO PROBLEM, because it is very rear car. 120k euro + 30% of price... NO thanks .

so how can I get s2 which is my big wish? or coupe quattro? HOW? when I live in this stupid country...

before war it was Yugoslavia, and you could have car what ever you want , pay some taxes, and no problem. now I can have 50 000 euro but I can't bring s2 from Germay.

so who have problem here? you are talking about few euros + or -... big deal.. you can have s2, I can't.

and yes my month payout is around 500 euro... who is in ****?
