    VW ABS Units failing

What’s the deal with failing modern VW ABS control units?
Ok not regarding the S2 but affecting the wife's Touran and seemingly many other peoples’ VWs also fitted with ESP (antiskid).
The dealer did the diagnostic and were happy to offer a new unit for £1300 !!!
Said VW might consider a goodwill payment but might not as car a 53 plate.
Or I could wait as VW might release a repair kit at some time in the future.
Anyone know the best tack to take when appealing to VW for a goodwill payment?
Anyone know cheaper options e.g. where to get reconditioned units?
Any parts guys know about this fabled ‘repair kit’? Is it about to be released?
A great Christmas present – not.
(I know it's not S2 related but I'm not on any Touran forums - though perhaps I should be now - mind you am not on any washing machine forums either).

try a google search for ecu testing, or bba reman it is a common problem, what happens is the tiny gold wires inside break, i mean they are thinner than hair on your head.

Wife, Children, School Runs, Infants in the Road, Icy conditions, morally responsible multi-billion pound business, paramount priority safety. Polite letter to head office (don't even think about it with the dealer)... Explain your customer loyalty and your willingness to stay brand loyal... Da-de-da...

Polite... No nasties, but it's all very unsafe etc...

            ABS/ESP unit fail

Thanks Guys - if goodwill doesn't work you've given me a much better option than the dealer.
