How competitive could be a audi S2 coupe as a trackcar??

You can find it on the book from Mr. Kevin Thiel (Audi Tradition Clubs referent)
AUDI 80 Alle modelle von 1972 bis 1995
Pictures from the book page to follow, anyway not just the viscous centre diff was used (torsen was also used to be precise) but also viscous was the rear diff and multiple plates diff in the front all this makes the IMSA something on is own.

All very sound advice sir. In my case I've used optimum suspension setup and outright power to have fun with all types of cars at track days. In the case of my 99.5 A4 tqm the suspension setup has been enhanced further than the engine. This car has H-Sport sway bars, Penske racing shocks with Start-up Racing coil-overs, ASP DTS, Stasis 4:1 center diff, corner balanced and alligned more for track duty than street and all the 034 and Apikol urethane and solid mounts that they make. The car runs 321x30 rotors and Boxster S calipers upfront and 300x24 rotors and B5 S4 calipers in the rear. The motor has been modified to deliver 322hp/377tq at the wheels. It also runs 17x8.5 SSR Comps with 225/45-17 Victoracers all around. The car feels great on the track and can turn-in with most cars. As Rusty points out though its about getting back on the power early and higher exit speeds that put this car out front.A quattro car driven to its strengths is very fast, a quattro car driven like a BMW is useless. Slow in, fast out is the key, use to torque and grip to drive through the latter part of the corner. Get the weight pointing where you need it to using a little slip on corner entry, then use the quattro system and turbo to get a decent exit. It's very effective but isn't so easy where a sudden change of direction is converned.
What the front engined layout looses in dynamic ability, it makes up for in increased traction and braking capability and of course, the wet weather stability is very useful, as shown in the BTCC with the A4.
I've found that high speed stability, mid corner traction and corner exit speed are all excellent in the quattro, it's corner entry speed due to weight management and slow, tight corners where the quattro system is fighting itself that aren't so good.
While the weight balance isn't ideal, the chassis setup leaves a lot to be desired for track driving, of course, this can be sorted to whatever standard you like, it just depends what level of butchery is allowed in whatever race series and / or how much time, money and testing you can put in.
If nothing else, it'll be good fun and reliable, if not absolutely competitve with more modern, better developed and more conventionally designed cars.
My other car is a whole nother story. Da Monstah has embarassed many Porsche, Ferrari, Viper, and Vettes here in Colorado. This car has dual adjustable Koni racing shocks and basically custom coil-overs that I have street and track settings for. Even with the dual purpose suspension, I still run the S6+ front sway bar and a self designed 26mm rear bar to help hold things as level as possible. Needless to say, the car has BIG brakes at all 4 corners. The 755hp at the wheels just blows other cars away. I haven't had the opportunity to track the car in this configuration yet. Its snowy and cold here in Colorado so I'll have to wait until the spring.
As far as your S2 is concerned, a good suspension setup is important. Great brakes are mandatory to bring your speed down to turn-in. And, of course, lots of power to pull you away from those other guys. The S2 can make a great car to drive everyday and bring to the track on the weekends or whenever.

Yes, it was Angus Gorringe (sp.) in the AAA championship but there wasn't much info on it. At least one thread on here though. I think it was more of a road car in terms of engine and some coilovers, cage and bucket seat.
Some proper work on the suspension geometry and weight distribution would do wonders for an S2, I'm sure that TerryB has done various tricks to move weight rearwards.Cheers'en, AndyC

The S2 is a OK trackcar and with some modifications it works great even if weight distribution isn't the best.
Mine is fully loaded incl el. leather, AirCon... so a bit heavy. 1700+ with driver and passenger. Stiff suspension, large brakes, 600+ engine and track tires does make it fun to drive

If you know what you are doing, you can make S2 to be also proper race car..
not S2, but suspension pretty the same: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkoBFu4SfTY
this car is 3 sec faster then factory built Porsche GT3 RSR with all the good weight balance, sequential gearbox and so on
(weight and power is the same on both cars)

so you have the same power and weight as the factory pOrsche GT3 RSR and your super old iron audi is 3 secs faster??

Sierra Cosworth yes. A lot of power, but no grip
Some trouble with grip on the CQ too. If you look on the first video I'm spinning the inner wheels on corner exit so LSD's for next season

Have you ever weight it with corner weights? Numbers?
