So when getting a car looked over before buying, which mobile companies would anyone recommend that know their stuff and know what to look for when it comes to B5 & B6 S4s, do any of them run diagnostic checks?. Would you be throwing money away with an AA check?
I had the AA do a check on an Impreza I was buying a few years ago.
Even tho it was an import they found details about it
Also found it had had a new rear quarter on it-but repaired to a high standard
Was worth the money for peace of mind (even tho it was a bit fragile and I broke it easily, hence coming back to Audi!)
If I remember we recently had the AA come in to work to check over a car for a customer buying the car and I'm sure he used a diagnostic scanner to check for any faults. The bloke we had was there for a good few hours looking at the car.
I would be inclined to get an independent specialist who knows all the idiosyncrasy's of the cars, eg Wab, MRC, Quattronutter etc, the srs forum should also have some good suggestions as they have a lot of b5 focus
The AA/RAC would be a waste of time, they can only spot the obvious general things, not specialist cars such as an S4 where there are particular things that need checking.
Ask an AA man if he will do you a boost leak test
Depending on where you are in the uk... MRC, Unit 20, Bahnstorm, etc
Or at worst see if someone will go along with you who has some knowledge
Just had Elite Inspections (http://eliteinspections.co.uk/) check out a B6 S4 for me. Seem very thorough and the feedback you get is detailed, haven't had the report yet. They will even do the negotiating for you and will leave a deposit, and give a 3 month guarantee, so if the clutch ****'s the bed in that time and there was no mention of it in the report they will pay. Don't think AA offer this.
Obviously getting the car to MRC or similar would be the best option but loads of hassle.
going back to this thread, service from elite inspections was pretty good, he even went the extent of phoning the garage that had stamped one of the services but not stated the date or mileage to check everything was in order. Any all good and yesterday I collected this little beauty!.... It seems to have a drinking problem!...
