    New runaround

Not a VAG but special nonetheless - I'm currently running around in an Alpina B3 3.0 switch-tronic coupe. 3.0, 250bhp six cylinder with the switch-tronic transmission (auto with manual override). It's rather pleasant, reminds me of how the S2 used to be before I owned it for any length of time! Certainly shifts and the buttons on the steering wheel certainly help make up for the slush box. It's car no. 199 and is on the Alpina register here. It was onwed by a chap I used to work with, who is now emigrating and so I'm looking to sell it for him, and was stunning when he picked it up back then; more of a used example now but still full of character If you know of anyone looking for one, then please get in touch but in the mean time, I'll be cruising about in an Alpina - a childhood dream for sure!

I don't want it because it'll end up turning into another project and I've already got 2 of those and don't want to sell either of them

Just cleaned it up a bit and it's in pretty good shape for a car of that age and 111k miles, I think honest would be the best description.

Value is hard, there's an identical anniversary coupe at Munich Legends for £7k and a few others around for £4-5k. This one needs a little refresh on the suspension so I guess £3k or so, worth that to break as the engine and interior alone are worth quite a bit, let alone the wheels, switch-tronic transmission, s/wheel and additional display etc. etc. Alpina Billies and Eibachs... the list is long... friend's visa came up suddenly and he had to leave ASAP, hence me having it for a bit.

When you put up an advert (presumably on PH?), can you PM it over to me? I may know of a few guys interested in buying it.

I like that too and had a soft spot for one before the S2 came along...

Did some cleaning today in the cold and rain and then went to the Downs to take some pictures... promptly locked the keys in the car and spent 30 mins waiting in the rain for help to arrive... Oh well.

Rob, chuck me an email and I can pass on details, no advert going up just yet because it needs a good clean and tidy but if you have an interested buyer then that would be grand

Been rather enjoying myself with this, it's just like the S2 used to be, fast enough and smooth enough that most journeys are pretty effortless. The switch tronic manual override on the slush box works well and enables engine braking when driving in a 'spirited manner'. Steering is a little slow but has a nice weight to it, thanks in part to some M3 parts bin bushes, and the pedals are a little too offset for my knees. Fuel economy is as bad as the S2, which suprised me a little, but overall it's a nice place to be, what with some proper plush leather, working AC and silky six cylinder

Nice looking motor - might be worth spending £20 on some new numberplates!
