    information on 1997 1.9tdi 110bhp engine needed

Im looking for some information, or some advice on where i can get such infornation on the above engine, code either AFN or AVG found in the Audi A4 Avant

Have one that seems to be pressurising the cooling system, and im suspecing water pump failier, head gasket gone...

i need to do some investigating to see if theres is oil in water, water in oil, do a sniff test to see if theres combustion gasses in the cooling system, and also check if the water is circulating

depending on what the problem is, im going to either have to replace the water pump, in which case ill do the cambelt, tensioners etc, or if its the head gasket get the head crack tested do the head gasket and change the cambelt, water pump etc

having never changed the cambelt on a diesel im looking for information detailing the job if possible, and also if there are any special tools required?

obviously this engine is shared between plenty of other audi/vw models so im sure there must be a write up on a variation of it, please note this is a pre PB engine

I have a A4 with a AFN engine, there is a haynes manual that covers
    the majority of stuff.
The timing belt is big job, the bumper has to come of and the lock carrier
has to be put in the service position for you to have room.
You can get the factory tools from laser, I got mine of eBay.

Give me a shout if you want any more help

The lock carrier is what the bonet closes onto, it carries the radiator,
        air con rad, headlights etc

oh the slam panel... sorry, not heard it called a lock carrier before

and put in the service position, should i just remove it?

removing everything is no problem, just wondering what tooling or anything special i need to do etc

Once you put the slam panel in service position all it is a couple of long pins that thread in and let the panel slide fwd and sit on them stops it falling away
i don't use them once that is pulled fwd it is a piss case if you are ok with timing belts it will not take to long

            cheers Raj

so you wouldnt bother, just pull it all forward? do i need any locking tools, or anything special to adjust the tensioner?
